I believe Arwalden is in MD and JohnKleeb is in VA, and I'm reasonably sure neither has been seen since the hurricane. There's a story in LBN about the power still being out, especially near Richmond. Any ideas? Any suggestions? Anybody know these folks personally?

1. I live between Baltimore and Annapolis in Maryland...
And there are still many people here without power. In fact, some schools are still closed. Depending on where you are in Virginia, there are still many power outages there too. Some estimates of when everyone will regain power are Friday or later.

7. Thanks. Jeez Louise!
I wish they would have shown the percentages of customers affected rather than the numbers, but it's still rather eye-opening.

PS: I guess now we have to rename this the Demman/demnan hurricane, no?

5. Mid-Atlantic Region was just hit hard again this morning
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 12:52 PM by LynneSin
And many folks who may have just received their power back are without again. There were at least 3 confirmed tornados and I swear one went through our apartment complex this morning. It woke me up about 3 minutes before 7am and crap was flying all over the place along with the horizontal rain fall. Last I checked I was still without power at home (oddly enough I had power throughout all of Isabel, one of the only areas in Delaware to keep power throughout the storm)

We're already a mess with all this rain and any more rain is just going to devestate this entire area. The 2 main rivers in Delaware, Christiana and Brandywine, are already filled to capacity.

http://kyw.com/news/local_story_266103708.html

I know that there were more tornados reported in Virgina around the Richmond area.

All I'm asking is for Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell to please please please stop praying - you're making God very angry!!!

8. Yep one went right over our apartment building
My wife is hoe sick today and apparently the local news showed the track of the twister and it went right over our building. I woke up a 5:50 to the sound of incredible rain and it was as dark as midnight. I turned on the TV and they were reporting tornados. Okay we've lucked out twice now.

10. Checking in...
though I have started my own thread earlier today. I was caught in Isabel. Thankfully we dodged a bullet. Lots of wind damage to trees around my area. I only lost power for a day and a half, but just didn't really have a chance to log in and check things out until today. Luckily I live right off one of the main lines and power was quickly restored.

I hope that all are who haven't checked in are safe and sound. Just remember there are still quite a few places with out any power, water... etc. Some may not have power for weeks. There is a lot of REBBUILDING that has to be done.

13. thought I just saw a JohnKleeb post elsewhere in lounge
Based on my experiences on the GUlf Coast, power/phone can be off for as long as 2 weeks, so not everyone will return on the same schedule. Hope everyone comes through OK in the end...it is a tedious experience picking up after a storm.

14. How'd I get so lucky?
I'm near College Park, MD. Our power was out from late Thursday night until sometime on Sunday. Our house is surrounded by trees, but nothing blew down except some dead wood and a fair number of twigs.
We haven't even had to boil water.

Yesterday, I drove through the little neighborhood of Berwyn Heights, less than 2 miles from me, and there are huge trees down on every block, many having taken power lines with them. They still don't have power today.

I feel like I'd better go out and do a bunch of good deeds; because my Karma account has gotta be overdrawn...

Here are some positive cybervibes for those still in the dark:

17. Have a couple of "pen / e mail " chums in Bethesda MD,
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 10:14 PM by Valerie5555
and I may bear with them until things go back to whatever passed for as normal until I write or e mail them again.

On edit They were one of the key players in that infamous H word drama in Iran, of about 25 years ago and his wife who got the "yellow ribbon ball rolling" as far as campaigns for remembrance of the captives held at the time were concerned, I suspect they and the rest of Bethesda may still be in the dark, maybe not for that may not have been to good for a certain Naval Medical Centre there.

20. No electric, no gas, no phone
It depends on where in Fairfax County you are. I am in Belleview we are now starting our second week with no electric gas or phone and the water is still questionable. I am less than 10 miles from the Capitol Building and I am living under third world conditions.
