Give me your favorite Douglas Adams quote!
Mine's more than 4 paragraphs long, so I can't post for fear of copyright infringement, but it's the bit about the people and the lizards they vote for here: http://pcbo.dcs.aber.ac.uk/hhgttg/hitch4/node37.html
Any resemblance to political systems living or mostly dead are purely uh, intentional.

What's yours?

1. This one about Fjordland, New Zealand....
If you took the whole of Norway, scrunched it up a bit, shook out all the moose and reindeer, hurled it ten thousand miles round the world and filled it with birds then you'd be wasting your time, because it looks very much as if someone has already done it.

From "Last Chance to See" his excellent book on the environment.

"Look," said Zaphod, "I'm up to here with cool, okay? I am so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis. Now will you move before I blow it?"

- Zaphod Beeblebrox, the Restaurant at the end of the Universe

3. I am not drunk
When he clearly was, at 10 am at a book signing in a bookstore I happened to stop into.

His nose was SOOOO red and swollen, and he was tanked to the moon.

4. There is a theory...
There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

LOL! RIP, Douglas Adams.

7. How to pick one?
From H2G2:

Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the Universe than we do now.

Or maybe this from Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul:

It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on earth has ever produced the expression "As pretty as an airport."

Also the bit on pub food in England, the one that concludes: "The sausages are for those who know what their sins are, and wish to atone for something specific."
