Does anyone else have mini panic attacks before going on vacation?

I worry endlessly about our cats. Weird, I know, but we just moved and some new (though extremely nice) people will be caring for them.

Am I just bizarre?

1. I get sick to my stomach when I pack

I love to travel but it freaks me out when I pack. I usually take too much but my last trip I took an oversized day pack and still had too much. I'm trying to learn. I have no idea what worries me about it, but noone wants to be any where near me when I'm packing.

2. No...

...we have a trusted friend watch after the cats at our house, and it still freaks me out. My favorite panic attack, though, is thinking I forgot my tickets all the way to the airport when I'm off on an international flight. The S.O. has to spend 20-30 minutes trying to drive while I pat myself down endlessly and inventory my briefcase 30 times. :P

5. Reminds me of traveling with my family...

My dad always insisted on getting to the airport *ages* before the scheduled departure (and this was before you had to go through security), just because he wanted to be sure we wouldn't be late. And we'd be like, "Dad, we're so early that the airplane is still in Seattle, being assembled at the Boeing factory." But it was always like that.

10. yeah, I'll obsessively check and recheck my bags for

my tickets, my passport if we're going out of the country, my contact lenses... Then after my husband snorts derisively about my obsessing, he'll all of a sudden start patting himself down to make sure he's got his wallet, keys, etc. Seems to be an infectious disorder.

3. Absolutely Every Single Time

I am used to them, but I still get them. I see a lot of people get them, so I don't think they are unusual.

4. 20 minutes after I leave, guaranteed.

Did I leave the stove on?
Did I lock the door?
Is the iron still plugged in?
Did I leave the hallway light on so it looks likes someone's home?
What if that light explodes and starts a fire?
Is my insurance up to date?
Did I close the garage door?
Seriously, though, did I leave the stove on?

7. my husband has a lot of woodworking tools, general

futzing-around stuff in the garage and I fret endlessly that something's been left on, that the protective case isn't over the table saw and the cats will cut their legs off, that the stove is on (even tho I never cook), blah blah blah. It's horrible.

6. I worry about tsunamis every time we go near the Pacific.

And that's just for starters, the house will burn down, the cat will die, the plane will crash, if we go on a boat, it will surely sink, and if we go in the water giant white sharks will attack...argh!!! And I don't even want to think about going east, and the kids want to go to Europe.... I may get an ulcer.

8. I have three separate people on notice that they

have to place my cats in loving homes if they can't take them in case something horrible happens...

9. Yeah, but they are real panic attacks

Only has happened a couple times but I think that it is usually caused by a combination of worrying if my husband is going to actually get going and rushing up and down the stairs carrying somewhat heavy luggage. I feel hot, dizzy, and out of breath. Luckily, my husband usually drives so I can take a Xanax and chill.

11. Panic travel

Yes. I become hyper when I pack. Take too much. Am sure I have lost the tickets. Then the real worry sets in -- we will never return; the cats and dogs will be stressed and get sick; I always ask myself why I am leaving my nice, comfortable home to spend time in an airport.

Funny, once we are in the air I calm down and mellow out. But the best sight in the world is the return flight and seeing Las Vegas as we come in for a landing and breathing the dry, desert air --- I'm home again.

12. Yep,

Worry that I'm going to oversleep, lose my tickets, my money, that the airport has gotten even BIGGER and less friendly, that a huge wind will blow my front door off the hinges and I'll return to find it torn asunder, that my dogs will die of loneliness or that the people we hire won't say one kind word to them and that my cars will be stolen or vandalized.

Other than that, I LURVE to go on vacation. :crazy:
