Minneapolis is a great theater town, and I plan to subscribe to some series next year. That's the only way I'll get myself geared up to go see anything, even though I love attending live theater. But this was the year for adding music and dance subscriptions.

The week before that I saw Jubilee theatre production of "God's Trombones" adaptation of James Weldon Johnson's "Creation" poem

I absolutely LOVE live theatre, and we try to go to a few plays every year.

The winter series for Casa Manana /Bass Hall is CATS, Miss Saigon, Grease (w/Frankie Avalon), Tuna Christmas, Red White and Tuna, and one other that I can't remember right this minute.

First time I have been tempted to buy season tickets in a long time.

18. Broadway show - "Rent" - in April 2001

My niece was always into singing and acting and when she was little I told her I would take her to a Broadway show for her 16th birthday. She never forgot I said that and held me to it. She picked Rent because she was just fanatic about the story and the music. She knows all the words to every song. After that weekend so did I. I took her and one of her girlfriends and they sang constantly.

We flew from NC to NY, stayed at the Hilton, toured the city for a couple of days, seeing all the tourist sites of course. I have some wonderful pictures of the twin towers. It's weird to think that just a few months later they were gone.

The night of the show I surprised her with a prearranged limo to take us to and from the show and a drive around to see the neon lights on Broadway (they are bright ya know)

I was not familiar with Rent and was disappointed about her choice, but damn it was good! After seeing it I was very glad she picked it. She gave me a CD of the soundtrack and it used to crack her up every time I would sing one of the songs from it.

Memories are lighting the corners of my mind....

Last time it came to SF. I love going to the theater but due to budgetary constraints, I'm not able to that often. Plus it's always a chore to convince hubby that he'll have a wonderful time when we do (which he always does - it's just as difficult to get him to a rock concert or a sporting event. He'd just as soon stay home and I'm very similar so that's another reason - neither of us motivates the other).

It was great. Michael and I actually used to go see the author's other musicals when he was staging them up at a little theatre on Northwestern's campus.

BatBoy used to do children's theatre with a guy who was in the Cardiff Giant theatre company, so we felt obligated to go and support their shows. Almost all of them were as bizarre and unusual as Urinetown. One of them even starred Alexandra Billings, pre-operation.

Mark Hollman was also in the Cardiff Giant ensemble cast and went on to write Urinetown. Small world. :-)
