My computer's sound doesn't even work if I use headphones

1. Check that sound card is fully seated in socket. Then check drivers.

Go into control panel and find your way to system->device manager and see if there's a "!" mark by the sound card...

Checking to see if the volume control is set to 'mute' is another option.

Its really strange, I used to be able to plug headphones in to the jack by the tower but I went out for a day and apparently my dad moved the computer, and then I lost all my sound. Jesus Christ, how am I supposed to listen to music and play my new video games.

12. Well... I had a sound hardware failure on a mac once.

On my original iMac. I suspect due to ESD.

I bought USB speakers, and never looked back.

21. uninstall the sound card from device manager..

Assuming this device isn't on the mobo, go to your Device Manager, right-click on the sound card, and select Uninstall. Boot down your machine, and physically remove and reseat the card in the PCI socket. If you have an available PCI socket, you may even try moving it there. Restart your machine, and Windows should detect and install the device automatically.

If pops moved the machine, the card may have become unseated. If this doesn't work, you may have to purchase a new device.
