Apparently some crazy freepers have created a petition to bring back the House Un-American Activities Committee. Signing are several prominant freepers, such as RimJob and Kristenn.

Also signing are: Sauron, Hitler, Kim Jong Il, Eva Braun, and several other models of genuine patriotism and love of country.

Since last night, rogue DUers have gotten it up to 444 signatures, most of which are worthless. Let's take it to 500, and beyond!

1. I read the petition, and it would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

"...protestors who hold signs saying, “We support our troops when they shoot their officers” are given a pass. They are not prosecuted, deported, executed, imprisoned or blackballed; they are allowed to prosper and profit from their treason and sedition."


Hmmm....I didn't know there was big money in protesting. You can "prosper and profit" by holding up big cardboard signs? Can somebody tell me where I sign up for this new "get rich, quick!" scheme, please?

Sedition in law; acts or words tending to upset the authority of a government. The scope of the offense was broad in early common law, which even permitted prosecution for a remark insulting to the king.

Sullivan v. New York Times (1964) was a case in which an elected official in Montgomery, AL, complained of defamation by civil-rights activists. The court ruled that to protect the free flow of speech and opinions, public officials could only collect damages for libel if falsehoods were made with "reckless disregard" for the truth. Their idea of sedition seems to stem from a belief that democracy is threatened by dissent, not based on it.
