Men (often) reveal all kinds of feelings - often anger an aggressiveness.

There are biological disincentives to showing perceived weakness and avoiding confrontation and these are gender roles in some species - including primates. Are you asserting that human genetic programming doesnt incluide aspects and remnants of this pattern ?

Sure, these things also are inculcated into cultural and social modes and mores of behavior but that hardly means they have no - or even a small - biological basis.

I didnt claim genetically determined, it is genetically influenced and perhaps on secondary basis. TO assert that are no genetic and behavioral differences between the genders is just plain false.

The 'act' of crying is not the same as the 'motivation' and the meachanism by which this occurs involving the brain. Whatever stimuli there are will be affected by gender-based and individual receptiveness and sensitivity (in the biological sense) and various brain characteristics (some of them geneder determined) - which may also be influenced by social conditioning and inhibitions. That hardly makes it 'entirely a result of social programming'.

Oh really? Strictly a biological function? That's true- but do we only cry when we need to rinse our eyes of foreign particles or to guard against infections? I hope you see that we humans do not cry JUST to clean our eyes- we cry to express emotions.

Duh it's false :eyes: I never said there were no genetic differences between the sexes- only that the genetic differences between the two genders relating to the physiological formation of the organs necessary to cry.
It seems to me that you think that men really don't cry because there is a more deeper genetic basis for the reason why women seem to cry more than men- which is odd. Do you not think society has sent a clear message to men that crying is a sign of weakness and something a "real" man doesn't do?
How do you explain why women cry more-and this behavior is accepted- and that men crying is seen as an aberration from the normal idea of masculinity?
It just seems to me that men chose not to cry due to the belief that it is seen as being not masculine- and masculinity is defined by society. Keep in mind that there are some cultures where men crying IS excepted because crying is not seen as something that is judged on gender. In the US, crying is seen as a feminine trait. For men to cry it is then seen as being "girly". Think back to childhood. How many boys were told to stop crying and "be a man"?
Societal norms are INCREDIBLY powerful and I think you underestimate just how powerful it is in determining what we perceive as being normal behavior for the genders.

I got very ill, MrG is the gentlest of men. My heart melted when he held my baby girl in his arms and sang her to sleep...she in the pink fuzzy sleeper...he in the leather jacket. The day he made her his daughter is one of the most treasured moments of our lives together. :hi:

Most every episode of the tv sitcom "The Wonder Years" left me with either moist eyes or, at least, a serious lump in my throat. The voiceovers at each episode's conclusion gave an adult perspective to his memories of coming of age in the 1960's. In so many ways, I WAS Kevin Arnold and it really moved me. It helped that my partner was always sitting right next to me, and was just as moved-I didn't feel quite so alone and unmanly.
