My Wife has to work both xmas eve and xmas day

Please forgive my rant, but I am so pissed off right now. My ife works for a large drug store chain, and just got her schedule for Christmas. She will be working on Christmas Eve from 2-Midnight and 8:30-6:00 pm on Christmas Day. That pretty much kills Christmas.

This is our first Christmas as a married couple. One would think that would have an impact on her boss, but no. Instead, she gave the evening of Christmas Eve off to another manager so he can watch the Goddamn Packer game.

She always gets screwed when it comes to the schedule. We got married in September, had our honeymoon, and then has had a total of 5 weekend days off since we returned the 2nd week of September. The other managers have had twice that.

The shitty thing is we can't afford to have her quit. I cannot believe this bullshit.

3. Why the favortism?

In a lot of places, seniority plays a role in scheduling the shitty shifts. is this her first year there? How did they handle the shifts last year?
To get two shitty shifts in a row like that, that's unbelievable.

She has the most seniority, and she had off Christmas Day last year. However, neither of the two other ass. managers were around last Christmas. They started within the last year.

pilots make. Besides which, GREED makes the stores stay open, not necessity or even "thats the way it has always been". I say we need to boycott stores that don't respect Christmas.

you don't need to answer. I think that she should say, "ok, I worked Xmas and Xmas eve this year, I should be off next year" to be fair. Or actually, that manager should even it out--either have her work Xmas but not Xmas Eve or the other way around. That is shit about her having to come right back in first thing in the AM after getting off at midnight. It sucks.

When I serviced restaurant computer systems, not only was I not off on Thanksgiving and Christmas, those were our busiest days...

Increased volume to places like Ryan's for Holiday meals almost insured I worked on every holiday.

crap during my 15 years in restaurant management. And the weekend crap. And, oh yes, since I was not one of the good 'old' boys (that meant young guys in twenties, vs me woman late 30's and 40's), I got all the damn night/closing shifts, too. One round I only got to open the store, and go home at a decent hour, once in 6 months.
Got my revenge though when all the young guys basically drank and partied themselves into being terminated. I became general manager of the largest location in just one year (with three years experience in another chain before that.) A year later, I was District Manager...and no one pulled unfair scheduling on MY watch.
Ahh, it was sweet. But I was promoted to DM under a really cool female VP. As the company grew, they added management levels, and hired some asshole as my new boss....he could sell himself and his ideas upstairs, but was full of shit, a communications blocker...ran the company downhill...I quit. Happy ending though. Due to my NEW job, I met my hubby, and now I just work 30 hours a week as hourly.

her manager is a woman, and there is one woman ass. manager and 1 man ass manager. The guy has been there the shortest amount of time.

11. I'm sorry you're upset, but it's really not that bad.

Be thankful she doesn't have to work 10 hours on Christmas Day waitressing for drunks (done it). Be thankful that she has a job, so you don't have to spend the holiday explaining to relatives that you couldn't buy xmas presents because you couldn't feed yourself if you did (done that too). Be thankful you aren't so broke that you give your friends 6-packs of ramen noodles (done that too).

And you have the whole evening with her Christmas day. Do something special. :)

Edited to add: also be thankful that you're lucky enough to be married, instead of getting dumped just weeks before xmas (just happened to me).

13. If you would have attended religious service, ask for a modified schedule

The company should accommodate your wife's religious needs if at all possible.

My mother usually worked on Christmas Day when I was growing up. She worked in a hospital, and they don't close for holidays. Neither do drugstores because people do get sick and have emergencies and need things on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

If you don't have children and this schedule doesn't interfere with your religious needs, then plan a Christmas celebration together around her schedule. The time of day is somewhat meaningless, when you look at the big picture.

As for celebrating a different day, well, i have off on xmas eve and monday the 27th. She works a mid shift on monday, from 9:00am to 7:30 PM. believe it or not, but i think its because im a frickin liberal. her bitch manager is a cardcarrying repug and hates the fact that my wife married a liberal. she didnt start getting the shaft until she met me!

I'm a nurse and the holidays just happen to fall on my days-on. The only way that I could get it off would be to trade with another nurse.
