Is anyone planning to buy 2004 Prius?

I cannot afford a new car this year.
However, we are planning to buy this car 2004 or 2005.
With this serious spike in gas prices, it seems so good.

Plus, I have to admit, this is more than just a hybrid car.
It really have a feel of a future car!!

I envy anyone who plans to buy this car this year.

BTW, pre order is already exceeding any optimistic projection.

Oh, I cannot wait to at least see this car...

btw, did you look at the new Civic hybrid? Beats hell out of the first Honda hybrid and is actually a real car.

7. Need the ground clearance

Unlike many urban road warriors in their SUV's, I actually go offroad. My father owns several large plots of land in the Sierra foothills and mountains proper, only one of which have proper paved roads leading into and through them. One of the lots, an inhold in the Stanislaus National Forest, actually requires us to ford a shallow stream to reach it. The forest service won't let us build a bridge, so I need something that wont get stuck in a foot of water.

I'd love to get rid of my Durango and buy something a little more environmentally friendly, but until we get an alternative fuel SUV on the market, I'm stuck.

5. I bought a camry in Dec 02

and right afterwards noticed the prius.

I'll prolly trade the camry in in about 4 more years for a prius or some equivalent.

Dunno about 2004, but sometime in the not-too-distant future,
we'll probably make the jump to a hybrid, and right now, the
Prius would be my choice.

One caveat:

There are several situations where the hybrid is not necessarily
the best choice:

• Sustained highway driving -- It offers no advantage here.
  
  
• Lots of very short trips -- The IC engine runs a lot when
  it's in "warm-up/recharge" mode during, say, the first several
  miles.
  
  
• Winters when the IC engine has to run more just to
  provide cabin heat.
  
  

Under some of these circumstances, a modern diesel
(like a VW TDI) probably offers better (or no worse) economy.
