A mysterious tree-stalking vandal with a saw and an attitude has created an uproar in the little Sonoma County town of Windsor.
The folks in this bedroom community just north of Santa Rosa recently woke up to find that their town's signature oak tree had been violated during the night.
Someone had sawed off 20 branches from the 200-year-old tree that is featured on the town logo and enjoys preservation status at Esposti Park.
The trashing of the town's most treasured tree was particularly disturbing to the townsfolk because the sawdust had barely dried from three previous attacks on the town greenery.
