3. I don't think it would be a good idea, because...
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 11:45 PM by northwest
...you won't necessarily get high from it. They'll tell you that the first time is this GREAT high, but I tried it twice and was unable to get high. They FINALLY tell me that you "won't get it on the first try". All I got was a lot of coughing and wheezing. Herb is REALLY strong and harsh, too. It's not a creamy, smooth cigarette. And I wouldn't try tobacco either, because it has a LOT more carcinogens and is more addictive than pot, but I digress.

So, pot probably won't get you high unless you smoke a lot of it. And I couldn't stand smoking anymore of it than I tried those times. It's not worth coughing and wheezing for. It's not worth trying.

13. ALWAYS drink in moderation.
I don't want to come off as "Mr. D.A.R.E. Propoganda", but this is mainly from my personal experience with pot (and booze). Also, my religious beliefs have some bearing on it.

38. You;re in factual error on at least one point:
Marujuana has no carcinogens. The carcinogenic effects of tobacco smoke are not caused by any intrinsic property of tobacco, either: tobacco is, by law, fertilised with compounds rich in radioactive phosphates, particularly Ra226, which breaks down to Pb210 and Po210 in the lungs, with a half-life of 10 years.

Also, you make a mistake in assuming that you may extrapolate from your experience, which is dependent upon your individual physiology, and does not hold true for most people. Unlike alcohol, marijuana doesn't kill brain cells (THC has been shown in experiments to actually protect neural tissue); doesn't cause heart disease; there's no risk of death from overdose; no tendency to violent aggression; no severe hangover; and no risk of physical addiction.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

50. I know. I was meaning to say that tobacco is far more addictive.
I understand the aspects of marijuana without having D.A.R.E. telling me otherwise. It's just that it's hard to make a personal decision on whether or not to choose to toke.

68. actually marijuana smoke has a lot of carcinogens
and so does tobacco. Tobacco has been causing cancer for hundreds of years--no matter where it is grown, so i do not believe it is the fertilizer. Smoke itself, from any substance, has carcinogens.
Reefer has 2 to 3 times the carcinogens as tobacco

a few tokes does not a pot head make...

and, despite the "drugs are the horrible evil" (which has taken a back seat to "non-whites are the horrible evil" - no white trrrrssts, you know) nobody has died from taking a few tokes from a joint.

Yes. Smoke pot. It's fantastic, it's great. Everyone I know that are in their mid 20s to late 40s that tokes maintain highly lucrative jobs, are way less stressed and have a much better outlook on life. That whole burn out loser scenario is BS, Id like to see what percentage of potsmokers become losers in comparison to the general public, because honestly, in my experience 70% of the most intelligent people Ive ever come into contact with were pot smokers. I think that the people I came into contact with as a teen and young adult, who smoked pot because it was trendy or rebellious, did experience problems due to their useage.. as with anything, excess is not healthy. I also remember quite a few drunk people who did some pretty stupid things. Responsibility isnt in a substance, it is in a person.

As for the guy who said that pot doesnt get you high...

Dude ( classic pot smoker), take a trip up to NorCal and smoke some HERB not weeds and then let me know what your revised opinion is :)

Infact, Id give you some myself, hypothetically speaking.. of course :)

16. Well, I don't know if the stuff I had was quality or not...
All I know is that I was smoking it up pretty good, coughing and wheezing, and no high. My mother said that the same thing happened to her in the early '70's. She tried it a few times and never achieved a high either. Also, my cousin said basically the same thing. It probably depends on the quality of the reef.

I smoked for 30 years and had to give it up a year ago due to frequent random and pre employment testing here in the SoCal healthcare industry.

Plus it may be a felony in your state and it does effect your memory.

I miss it though.

20. I don't know what to tell you
I never smoked pot or drank alcahol in High School like you and my life right now is in the shitter, so I don't think it'll completly ruin your life. If your really into art, history, poetry, reading and theology then it could help if used moderatly(1 to 2 a month). If you're into athletics then it doesn't have any quality's except for pain killer substitute. There was an old Center that used to play for the Cowboys and had a 17 year long NFL career I believe his name was Alex Steponovich(I could be wrong). He said he used to smoke pot instead of using the pain killers the teams proscribed or alcahol like his teammates would use. He say's that's why he isn't addicted to pain killers like other NFL players and he's in NORML. I don't know what to tell you except if you decide this look REAL deep inside of yourself to see if you want to do this or you're being pressured into this by your friend.

25. No. There is no one I know...
...who is better off for smoking it. True, it's not as harmful to the user (or those s/he comes in contact with) as alcohol is. But on the other hand, I've known many responsible, non-problem alcohol users who smoke marijuana compulsively.

It makes you hungry, horny and lazy, and all three are traits that we're born with an excess of.

Why would you want to do this? I am not a prude. I feel that most drugs should be made legal. The drug laws, as they now exist, are archaic and discriminatory. I am particularly in favor of legalizing medical marijuana. But, as for you - you are so very bright. Why would you want to mess your head up? Please don't.:-)

59. No John, glad to hear you were kidding
The answer is no. Stay away from drugs and don't ever listen to any adult iresponsible enough to encourage you.

I started smoking pot in the early 70s when I was 12. I looked around at 13 (after being busted and on probation..... voluntarily taking the rap for my asshole parents who really owned the stash) saw lots of perfectly inteligent people were acting like brain dead bores and decided to stop.

Now there are several people in my life and some really great people here who smoke on occasion. Many people handle it just fine. But there are stats that show that the younger you get involved in drugs and alcohol the more likely you are to become addicted. Pot does have a way of lowering your inhabitions to using other drugs and you may or may not be one of those people who becomes an addict. Do you really want to play crap shoot with that possibility?

See, even kidding around on that topic will bring a lecture from me. When it comes to drug use, I willingly accept the old fogey role.

People who tell you that it will expand your mind or make you more creative are deluding themselves.

66. Why put any kind of smoke into
your lungs. Smoke is pollution, pure and simple. Although it may or may not be worse than cigarettes, it can still eventually head to respiratory problems. Why not just be healthy?

Of course, I'm not a good one to discuss the other effects of pot, because I tried it once or twice and didn't like it at all. Others love the effect. Personally, I like to feel "normal." Do not like the way drugs make me feel.

69. I'm not voting on this one - it's a personal decision, but
did anyone see "My Wife & Kids Last Night"? Damon Wayons took some kind of supplement to regrow his hair. He ended up with 4 or 5 strands at various locations on his head and a raging case of paranoia! Turns out something in the supplement was similar to whatever's in pot that can make you paranoid. David Greer was also in it - he was the one who turned Damon onto the supplement!

70. I am locking this post
as it encourages illegal behavior. Sorry about that folks, but this is the same as asking "should I rob a convenience store?".
