OK... who else misses Zomby Woof??

Zomby hasn't been on DU for awhile now.......

...long story short...for whatever reason...he's been banned....as in tombstoned.

Now I gotta admit that when I see that tombstone on his name, it makes me sooo sad!!

So ....maybe... if all those who miss Zomby Woof, those yummy Zomby coffee threads and general "Zombiness"...can share a nice (I said NICE , and I mean NICE- so don't stick your nasty garbage in this thread thank you very much) story about Zomby...maybe, just maybe, it might soften the heart of TPTB a wee tad bit and the tragic tombstone can be removed and the one and only ZW can return to all his friends (& others) on DU!?

the exact reasons....but I think he replied to a poster who suddenly felt it was an attack on them...I saw his post & well, I didn't feel it was out of line .... but I admit I don't really know the whole story....(appears the one who hollered seems better able to dish it out than to take it ......)

19. Admin Never Bans Long-Time Posters Without a Very Good Reason

I can say that with great confidence, as a former, several-term Moderator. Not once have I ever seen them act capriciously in a matter like this.

They sometimes even allow second chances, provided that the banned poster expresses genuine remorse and follows-up with a marked improvement in whatever behavior caused Admin to ban the poster in the first place.

Finally, I'm not going to comment on the specific subject of this thread, except to say this:

I don't think that's really a fair statement, especially considering how we don't know the specifics. And considering Admin's standard policy of not discussing why a poster was banned, I doubt we'll learn the specifics. It's typically considered a matter between Admin and the banned poster.

27. Well...I've been here since day one -1/20/01

and I can't say that I agree with you 100%...of course I never knew what the reason was for banning some posters.... some it was very obvious they totally deserved what they got, but there have been some that it seems totally unjust that they were banned....that there were some they went up against that were the provocateurs ,who were allowed to remain, while the other was banished. From where I was sitting- it seemed unfair.

Of course when the reasons are never given as to why someone has been banned...we can never know if it was fair? or totally unfair? How can we judge it without all the facts......

all I'm saying DTH is this...I miss Zomby Woof and I'm sure I'm not the only one ...maybe it can help make a difference...:shrug:

and I can't say that I agree with you 100%...of course I never knew what the reason was for banning some posters....

The vast majority of the time, long-time posters are banned for either: 1) a pattern of bad behavior; 2) an egregious post which is quickly deleted; or 3) an egregious PM sent either to another poster or to Admin.

In ALL of those cases, we don't really get the chance to see what it was that caused the banning. If it's 1, then it's a gradual buildup and there's no one final straw that we notice as being particularly problematic. If it's 2 or 3, we don't see those at all.

So yes, we're not going to know. But in light of how we don't have all (or even some or any) of the facts, I don't think we can really pass judgment in the vast majority of these cases.

Just my $0.02.

Here's the deal.. Sometimes people get carried away, and rather than "eat a little crow", they can make it worse.. There have been many instances where people went off the deep end, and then sent an email of explanation to the admin..and they were welcomed back.. If I am not mistaken, one of them actually went on to become a moderator..

the admin guys do NOT hold grudges, BUT...and it's a big BUT, discussing the whys and wherefores in public, is the worst way to resolve an issue..

The best way is for a private e-mail correspondence between the bannee and the admin.

The admin tries to be fair to everyone, and that sometimes includes long-time posters who may have become a little "too comfortable"..

I had a boss tell me once that no one was irreplaceable.. Not exactly the same case here, but longtime posters have and probably will be banned.. It does not necessarily have to be permanent, but much like a parent with a child on a time out, there are rules and if the rules get broken, there is a price to pay..



I hope you do not consider this a "nasty garbage" ..just tellin' it like it is , and hoping that the zomby will return :)

He was one who gave of himself all the time to make newbies comfortable with his coffee threads converse with old friends to relax with and loved making new ones. His sense of humor made alot of these Lounge threads so funny and brought alot of us joy when times we needed to hear them.

He has a big heart, a helping hand who reaches out to friends and now it's time for his friends to reach out like these who posted to let him know, we miss him and are thinking about him!

I know of the adminstration to be FAIR, and if 1,2,& 3 reasons to be banned, TIME makes it good for all around, in behavior in all parties to accept we are all human and forgiveness is a gift from the heart. And I believe DUers' like Zomby who has alot of compassion towards others can get full of emotions and not think before they speak, but we are all guilty of that at times.

But to step up to the plate on both sides why this has happened the banning of Zomby to forgive each other and move on for the bigger picture with the open-mindness of the DU adminstration to know their DUers' really have love of the place but just need to learn to take care of it better by being more open-minded themselves to other DUers' feelings.

DU is a better place with Zomby Woof back and every DUer we have and to warmly welcome more so this home we have gets bigger and stronger. And with our ups and downs' like this banning of old friends makes us more determined to stay together and fight for the reason why we all are here. We need a President in 2004 that will be for the people like for you and for me and for our loving familes so the struggle gets easier for all of us! DUers' Unite!

I don't care what incarnation he comes back in. I don't care what the reason for banning was. I do know that I've been chatting with Zomby since I first found DU, and never saw a disrespectful post.

Sure, he disagreed with some, and wasn't afraid to express his opinions. What are we all here for, after all? But he didn't have a pattern of "bad behavior." On a "Fair And Balanced Discussion Board," the other poster in question should have been banned as well, if banning was the solution. A better solution might have been the "ignore" button.

Who else is going to care that I got to see Dylan and Young on the same weekend this summer, and chat with me about it?

Who else is going to pass the coffee to get me through another 13 hour day? I can tell ya; Zomby Coffee is better prep for after school staff and/or parent meetings than starbucks, anyday.

and asked for reinstatement? Sometimes the direct route is best. No matter how much we like and miss him, his account won't be reinstated until he works out the situation that led to the banning with the admins. As EarlG put it on another thread:
"Banned members don't get "voted back onto the island."

However, I have seen them let members return following a direct appeal. I hope it all works out.
