I doubt she has any Clara Gillow Clark books, they aren't real classics like the others on the list. I have met her and have signed copies of all three of her books, because she's somewhat of a local... who happens to have some national status as a writer.

I've gotten the girls bookstore gift cards before. I know they like them.

I just don't want to seem like the boring old guy who can't think of anything else.

As for the boy, I don't have a clue.

11. Boys like books too---Check the local public library for ideas---

and then get a book but be sure to check the return policy. Most bookstores(even the independents) will take a book back within a certain time.

THe public libraries are a wealth of information. They may even suggest a magazine that you can get a subscription for, for one of the kids. Sort of a gift that keeps on giving!

There are plenty of great books that boys enjoy out there and reading is not just for girls. My son, now 17, loves to read and always has. He enjoyed Holes, the whole Black Cauldron series (can't remember the author now), The Hobbit, many good books. Or a gift card.

For the 16 year old, what about Watership Down? Great, great book and I know I was a bit younger than that when I first read it.
