Eli Manning and Ben Rothlesburger

I was watching ESPN a few days ago and one of the commentators asked the question "If the New York Giants had Ben Rothlesburger as quarterback instead of Eli Manning would they be 12-1?" Did the New York Giants trade Rothlesburger for Manning before the season? I heard all the stuff about Manning being traded to the Giants I am just not completely sure who got moved around in the trade.

1. Giants traded Rivers to San Diego for Manning.

Clearly the QB in Pitt was coming into a MUCH better situation, with great defense, outstanding WRs, incredible double-punch at running back, and solid offensive line.

Would the Giants be 12-1 with Big Ben? I kinda doubt it.

For all Big Ben lovers, give the QB job to Eli in Pittsburgh and you would be Eli lovers. File Ben under Wuerful; file Eli under Brees.

5. Pittsgburgh has an outstanding receiver corp

two should have been Heisman winners (Ward and Randle El) and others. The whole team has come together and Rothlesberger just happened to be there-he is playing great so I don't want to sound like I am bashing him.

The Roony family did the smartest thing by realizing that Cower can coach so they stuck with him. They didn't run after the flavor of the month and get a BIG NAME coach-change for the sake of change. Cower is great at developing talent that is why every year (or every other) the team gets raided for its talent and still Cower goes on an rebuilds.

Seattle should pay attention and not get rid of Holmgren just because they haven't been annointed the greatest thing since sliced bread yet.

Holmgren of course has his dream job (SF) sitting right in front of him though.

That said, if Ben were at NY, the Giants would still stink. Eli is not pro material, and never will be. However, the problems with the Giants go FAR beyond the quarterback.

But, in fairness to him, MOST quarterbacks need a year or two to mature. Eli will never get that chance. Think back to Joe Montana and others--they were used sparingly at first. There's a big difference between college and pro. But when you pay these guys gazillions of dollars, the teams expect new guys to produce right away. The ones who do are the very small minority. The whole sitution has gotten out of hand when you think a medicore quarterback is going to come right in and rescue your team. Ain't gonna happen.
