A guy at work invited me. I decided to bring wine...but I don't drink wine...so I just got the kind that had the colour I liked the most.

I think it's rose wine.

Did I buy the wrong kind?

Don't let the wine snobs get you down. If you LIKE it, then it is a good wine to you, and screw anybody who wants to tell you that you are wrong.

White Zinfandel (a kind of rose colored wine that was extremely popular a few years back) is actually fairly drinkable and will probably not offend anybody. A lot of people who do not usually drink wine can deal with White Zin and lot of wine drinkers can tolerate it in the interest of peace. It is neither too dry nor terribly sweet. Several of the roses fall in that same category.

My husband and I both like wine, but we have very different tastes (sometimes referred to as different palates.) I like dry reds and dry whites and he likes sweeter wines (Wines that taste more like unfermented fruit juice, IMO.) There are only a few wines that he and I both can drink, and a rose is one of them.

Just as a suggestion about taking wine anyplace? Unless you know what they like or what they plan to serve, I always suggest a nice Champagne/sparkling wine. It is the one wine that is never out of place and it is festive...

Id suggest a Brut Cuvee because it will probably be pretty drinkable wine. (If you want to drop a bit of cash and don't have a clue just ask for White Star--it is made by Moet & Chandon, and is about $30.00 a bottle.) :)
