Don't ask me anything, ask DU: IT'S the dumb question thread
Just saw a dumb question on Ask the Admins (not to name any names; I'm proud though to say that for once it wasn't me) and thought that we need a central thread for DUers to come clean and ask whatever dumb questions have been bothering them, and for other DUers to answer them in a loving, non-condescending manner, and then giggle and call them names. So let's hear 'em!

And if you don't like this, go to the Meeting Room and reply to my More Dreams About Buildings & Food thread. Am I an attention hog or what? (That one was rhetorical.)

1. hows that stuff get into my belly button anyway?
I don't wear shirts of that color... and I bathe... Yet, every evening, there it is.

Is it a sign?

3. Check what color underwear you are wearing
OMG it matches !!!!

yup, that little happy trail you have also for some reason brings the undie-lint up into your bellybutton. That's why it doesn't match your shirts.

Kudos to DIKB, the vault of useless knowledge !!

11. "Gunboat Diplomacy"
That's what they used to call it back in the day, when the Royal Navy was helping to ride herd over assorted indigenous types, and the British could just "cane the wogs" to maintain order.

However, the actual use of naval artillery to enforce local compliance with imperial dictates is in serious deline. I think the last time a battleship blasted away at brown people was in Lebanon, during the Reagan administration, when the USS New Jersey lobbed shells into the hills, taking pot shots at 'the Druze'?? (After or before the embassy bombing, I can't remember??? I'm also not sure of where all those shells landed, if it was really just "the hills", or if urban centers were targeted.)

...Anyway, pardon the nit-picking, what I'm wondering is, can't we come up with a better, more modern and up-to-date term for whatever it is the Powers-That-Be have been doing around the world, in the last few years. The 78 day Kosovo "war from 50,000 feet up" comes immediately to mind, and those weren't even brown people. In Madelaine Albright's famous phrase, they "needed a little bombing". Like that aspirin factory in the Sudan, earlier on during the 90's.

Creative submissions will be considered for much-deserved personal acclaim, fame and adulation. (Also, no doubt, a heap of abuse.)

Use of personal names (a la "santorum"), however appropriate or deserved, may not be the best way to go, since this thing is probably much bigger than any one individual. (Or for that matter, and forgive me for saying so, one political party.)

If you don't know what I'm talking about, google both "Shawn Bradley" and "Mormon underwear," although not at the same time.
