I saw the interview and I think he was stoned.
Mike Wallace: Are you using anything that is potentially more harmful than marijuana?
Ricky Williams: You mean like sweets
hah, I really think he was high, really sad honestly because he was such a good running back, my dad actually waited on him when the Redskins wanted to draft him the year he was drafted and he says he was an odd ball then.

Being a JETS! fanatic, I by no means am a Miami Dolphins fan, but he fucked them over big time. If he had "left on his own terms" six months earlier, not a week before training camp, then people would possibly feel differently about him.

I anticipate him playing for the CFL in a couple of years, after the lawsuits and palimony suits take their toll.

Their QB situation was a mess most of the season. Wannstedt said something that ticked him off just before camp, kinda made him wonder if it was worth it, and he decided it wasn't. Not like they could've picked up a good FA back to replace him, anyway.

3. I liked his answer concerning when he should quit

" When my knees give out, when I've had too many concussions." I don't know anything about him but it sounds like he never really wanted to play football. He was just good at it and it got him what he wanted.
There is the matter of his contract though. Eight million dollars. That could be a real problem.

He demanded to be traded to the Raiders after he walked out on the Dolphins. After his request for immediate reinstatement was denied--after he learned he had to actually PAY BACK the money--that's when he finally left for "greener pastures", so to speak.

i think he was making a point...that people demonize marijuana and the people who use it...yet as americans we all have our own soft spots; sweets, alcohol, food, weed, whatever.

edit: i thought he was a jackass for the whole thing UNTIL i saw this interview...never heard more deep and insightful comments from a football player than what i heard tonight...his reasons were real and genuine and i think he's to be respected and admired

It doesn't matter to you, but it does matter to the NFL. Ultimately, wether or not pot is good or bad, criminally illegal or legal, or societally acceptable is irrelevant to this situation. You could make a case that the NFL should reduce or remove the penalties for smoking marijuana, but the bottom line is the NFL has made its feelings on this matter quite clear. Ricky knew these feelings; Ricky failed to abide by the rules and regulations of the organization he willingly became a part of, and was punished fairly.

There are many who parrot the line that Williams ruined the Phins season and that the Phins were legitimate Super Bowl contenders before RW quit... That's horseshit... The Phins buried Ricky in the two seasons he played for them by handing the ball to him over 750 times which is an NFL record for carries over a two season period. RW was Wannstedt's only weapon on an offense that ranks as one of the worst ever..... Ricky looked around at the Offense that Wanny put together for the 2004 season and said, No Fucking Way!

RW is not the reason the Phins sucked this year.... No, that would be Dave fucking Wannstedt.

Still upset about them knocking Denver out 2 years ago but loved it when Denver had the tiebreaker over (10-6)Miami last year :evilgrin: I think Miami is a cool team with nice uniforms, it's just that the AFC doesn't need more good teams. Almost all the teams in the conference are just going to be more talented next season, the NFC is full of teams in need of a QB and they're overall more older then AFC teams. The AFC will be overloaded with playoff calibur teams for the next 2-3 years. The NFC was the better in 2002, AFC proved to be the better conference last year with 7(Miami left out) teams with 10 wins or better and 4 with 12+, the NFC had 6 teams with 10 wins but only 2 with 12 wins. This year, after 14 games there are 2 with 1 loss, 2 that are 11-3, the Jets are 10-4, then you have 4 teams with an 8-6 record with only 1 that can make it. NFC, 1 one-loss team, a 11-3 team and the rest consist of two 8-6 teams, 3 6-8 teams, and 7 5-9 temas. It's going to be scary to see that teams like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincy, Houston, Jacksonville, and possibly KC if they bring in some defensive players are going to be even better next year.
