OCEAN BREEZE PARK, Fla. (AP) Dec. 20, 2004 — A 96-year-old woman has won re-election to a second term as mayor of Ocean Breeze Park, Florida.
That allows Dorothy Geeben to retain another title _ the nation's "oldest mayor."
No records make the title certain. But the U-S Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities have no reports of anyone older. The closest contender might be a 92-year-old mayor in Pittsburg, Texas.
Geeben says the secret to her longevity and popularity is a crammed schedule that keeps her moving. She still drives regularly to church, bingo and the hair salon. She manages her finances the same way she learned in the 1920's, using a typewriter and an adding machine. And her rice pudding is a fixture at potluck dinners.
