in that order. Why? Because Texas has the worst state laws on its books than any other state in the entire nation, followed by "North Texas" eeerrrrrr Oklahoma, and we all got a small taste of Florida-style laws in 2000 which reflects their state laws, overall, too.

One never runs out of things to do there. It's such a great state in so many ways and being your neighbor in NC, I have plenty of opportunities to visit. However, the last couple of times I've vacationed there, I've encountered huge billboards that ooze love for Bush. I saw one that made me particularly ill; it said "Support President Bush and Our Troops" as if that makes sending them off to an elective war without enough supplies just fine and dandy.

I get AM radio signals from the Spartanburg area and some of the fundy preachers sound like they're broadcasting from a John Birch meeting. It's very troubling. I'm impressed that you are willing to stay and fight.

I was on my way to my family's house on the coast and was passing through Andrews, SC. There was a billboard which stated: "Boots or Flip-Flops", as if bush were a genuine veteran.
Back in 2000, there was a huge billboard on I-77 which stated: "SC is Bush Country". A strong wind blew it over and it stopped traffic on the interstate for several hours. I considered that a prophetic omen of things to come.

73. There's more to New York than the city

There's that often forgotten entire state attached to NYC. I grew up in the suburbs of Rochester and loved living in NY. The areas around the finger lakes (with all of the gorges), the Adirondack mountain area. The area around Lake Champlain is absolutely gorgeous. I think it's a great place to live. Other than the taxes, which are a bit outrageous, no matter where you are. But there's so much more to NY than NYC! The entire state has a wonderful historic past, I love it there! :hi:

I live 60 miles north of the city and can take a train into Manhattan anytime I want to. On and they serve drinks on the train. I do drive there sometimes but one learns rather quickly one where to park, etc.

When we moved out West from NY everyone asked us where in the city we had lived. It got pretty frustrating because we lived up near Rochester. I lived there all my life until that point (born there and lived there until almost 18) and had never even been to NYC. My dad avoided it at all cost. But it wasn't until we moved from the East that I realized that everyone would associate "New York" only with NYC and not the state.

You don't need a car in Manhattan. That's the beauty of the place. Taxi, bus and subway or just plain walking. It's wonderful. My favorite city.

It is overwhelming at first but definitely worth the trouble.

I lived in Connecticut. My father interviewed for a job in Atlanta one day back in 1965 or so. My mother got out the map to look up Atlanta and she gasped, "Oh my God, it's almost in Alabama!"

Now, whenever I come home from a long road trip and I cross the state line into Alabama I feel a sense of relief. Most places are what you make of them. I've made this place my home.

You can trash it all you like. Most likely you've never spent much time here, if any at all. I don't know where you live, but I'm sure it's a fine place with a lot of wonderful people. Most places are. Even big bad Alabama.

She was ready to blow her brains out there. I'd be in the same sitch. I hate the Springtime (severe thunderstorms and tornadoes) as well as the fact that it is conservative, BIG TIME! It's not the politics, it's the climate and landscape. I've never been to any part of Florida other than the central area (ORlando, etc), but it's so flat, humid, and hot. I find it remarkably depressing to visit there for more than a few days. I also need some winter time!

On the other hand, the Rockies are spectacular and would be neat to live near, but the state I think I would like the most is northern Vermont. Mass. is pretty swell, but Vermont has that certain something. Plus the winters are more satisfyingly cold.
