Poll question: Best Smiths Album?

I know for some this is like asking your favorite child...but let's see which one pulls ahead!

Meat Is Murder

Their canned first album that you can easily find bootlegged.

Now, I wouldn't necessarily choose it as my favorite, but I do think it is superior to the self-titled LP in some ways.

4. Hatful of Hollow

First one hard, so it means the most to me. Besides, of all the album covers, Hatful has the cutest boy on it!:P

5. Strangeways

is my fave. My favorite Smiths songs aren't necessarily on that album, but as a whole it works best for me.

6. "Hatful of Hollow"

Gets off to a great start with "William it was Really Nothing" and just gets better from there. "This Charming Man" and "What Difference Does it Make" are all time favorites of mine.

"The Smiths" is also excellent; duplicates many of the tracks on "Hatful" and has a different (but equally good) version of "What Difference Does it Make". It also has a very haunting song called "Suffer the Children" that recounts the true story of the Moors Murders that took place in England in the 1960s. This is a tragic and disturbing story and is the reason that no girl in the UK is ever named "Myra".

11. Not to be all anal retentive about it...

But "Hatful" and "Louder Than Bombs" aren't technically albums. Otherwise LTB would have been my pick.

But "Strangeways" by far had the best production. And "Paint A Vulgar Picture" is probably one of the best songs of all time.
I always thought the vocal tracks on "The Queen Is Dead" were way too loud, and it covered up a lot of the music, and while the production on "Meat is Murder" was a lot better, too much of their early material sounded like it was recorded for a demo.

13. OMG, I used to love them so much.

My dad just asked me recently if he could unload all my old LPs, which included a complete Smiths discography, to his friend who was opening a store. I said sure, and I finally let it all go. When I was a teenager, I wouldn't have been able to imagine doing such a thing.

14. after much contemplation I chose "strangeways"

but I might change my mind later. I saw them perform in the 80's at George Washington UNiversity in DC . I believe they were promoting "the QUeen is Dead." Great show. :thumbsup:
