But the way out of it for me was real acheivement. Do something you don't think you can do. For me, I took up boxing and was able to do it reasonably well. Or go camping by yourself for a week in a wilderness area. Do something hard and it will give you confidence.

I like old R&B stuff a lot, but there's not much a find in the contemporary R&B genre I'm fond of. With a few exceptions (I really like Sarah McLachlan for instance) most modern pop/rock artists don't do it for me especially edgier ones. I'll always have a little soft spot for certain 80's music I listened to in my youth (The Smiths, older REM). I like jazz, but I've never gotten too into it (but I should as my daughter is becoming quite a sax player) which is weird because I do like R&B which is, in part, rooted in jazz. I suppose when I listen to music that's primarily instrumental, I tend to like classical pieces by artists like Liszt or Debussy. Something like Wagner, for instance, I can appreciate, but isn't my cup of tea.

I'm eclectic, but I tend to like music that in some way brings me thought or peace rather than anxiety or tension, even a small levels.

I don't think it has a significant impact either way. But probably 90% of the time, I can generally guess what time it is within about 5 minutes. I think part of that is I swam competetively as a kid, which is very time cognizant (is that a real phrase?) and also my "career" has always been linked to time. I work in data processing, and have always needed to be aware of how long certain things take, in order to meet deadlines, or estimate how much past a deadline we will be.

So I sort of developed a good inner sense of time. The only place I'm bad at time is driving from A to B - I almost always arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule, partly because I factor in time for delays, but mostly because I hate being late, and am for whatever reason a bad judge of how long it takes to drive from A to B.

Sounds pretty cool, if that's what fanfic is.

1. I was in Los Angeles during the O.J. chase, in DC during the Lewinsky deal and the '00 election (at a Gore victory party, no less) and half a mile away from the Pentagon on 9/11. I returned to Los Angeles just in time for the gubernatorial recall. News-breaking Turmoil pretty much follows me wherever I go.

2. 3 years ago I walked across the lawn and up to the doors of Graceland (like the song) because I didn't know that you had to buy a ticket. The guard was, luckily, very nice about it.


3. I once had a boyfriend break-up with me at a wedding. At which I was a bridesmaid. In the car between the wedding and the reception. That is generally the break-up story to beat everyone's break-up story, including my friend's, whose boyfriend broke up with her on IM.

1) I have written 300 pages of a work of fiction. I started by writing the ending. The ending and beginning finally are more or less what I wanted, but I have real problems with the middle. Sometimes I abandon for years, but always seem to end up writing more eventually. I will die before I finish it.

2) I knew in the first ten minutes of conversation with my wife that I would marry her someday, even though it would have seemed completely absurd to her if I'd said anything about it then and there. (It took me years to get her even to go out with me.) It seems odd that one could love someone more than I love her right now, but I shall certainly love her even more tomorrow.

3) Though I love my boys enormously, sometimes I secretly feel guilty for having them, because I fear the world I am giving them.

1) I have Byron Dorgan's personal cell-phone number (via a good friend who worked on his campaign)

2) When I was in high school, I created a 6x10 foot wall map (a mosaic of smaller, computer-generated maps) of the entire city and metro area of London. Every single city street is included.

3) I always sleep with the lights on. I always have throughout my entire life. I'm not afraid of the dark or anything, but it just became something I got used to.

1) I was once a member of a "notable" race car driver's pit crew (before he went pro).

2) I too, have a birthmark, two actually. The inside of my right thigh and the other on the underside of my left arm. Both sound similar to yours, SOteric- in color and size.

3) I have never plucked my eyebrows and have no plans to do so.

When I was 8, one of my sisters lost a sewing needle in our living room carpet. While I was was crawling around, my knee found it. It went all the way in and hurt like hell. My parents took me to the doctor and he decided that he'd be able to get it out - without anesthesia. They strapped me down and had the nurse sit on top of me. In between my screams, I could feel the doc digging around and lifting up my kneecap, trying to get the needle out. He wasn't successful. Finally, they got me to a hospital to get it out in a more civilized setting.

I have relatives in Germany, who are still alive, who were members of the SS and Nazi party. The reason kindly old Uncle Max has never visited us here in America is that the US gov't won't let him in the country.

I'm a wine snob. I worked for 7 years in a liquor store selling the stuff, and developed a taste for the finer varieties.
The only problem is my palette has more expensive taste than my wallet can afford.


Oh, and I have a red birthmark on my left forearm, about a half inch across and shaped like West Virginia - only backwards.
