My aunt had Christmas Eve Dinner catered-THANK GOD

she is the blandest Irish/Scandanavian cook! She did make my grandma's Swedish meatballs (nowhere near as good). We had chicken parm, ziti, and Caesar salad but of course, being a mostly Irish family, there was hardly any food and 10 times as much booze.

I much prefer the Italian tradition of Christmas eve dinner-all that great seafood! :9

We have ham and turkey tomorrow. My mother cooks omorrow and, despite being IRish/Scandanavian, she's a pretty good cook!

I never have had food from my nana who is whole Irish. Now my Slovak grandmother is the best cook I know, lots of lots meat naturally.

2. This family who is.....

Irish/Luxembourgisch/French/Iroquois/German/Swiss/Greek had prime rib, oven roasted potatoes, and green beans almandine.

On edit: Kathy, God_bush_n_cheney is here staying with us for Christmas. His damn plane from Cincinnati got cancelled but he got standby status on a later flight and arrived just as the family was leaving.

Tomorrow we go to my sister's for a great turkey dinner.

7. We're all stuffed to the gills here

Zuppa de Clams, Dungeness Crab, Pasta Puttanesca, lots of bread and butter, the obligatory caeser salad.

We haven't thought about dessert yet. Either cookies and milk or ice cream or both......

8. I made an incredible ham with mashed potatoes and ham gravy

and some broccoli and cheese casserole (and no, the casserole was not my idea - something my sister wanted; I actually had to buy CANNED CHEESE SOUP to make the damned thing, but I outmanouevred by sister by using FRESH broccoli! HA HA HA!!! Take that!).

And by incredible ham, I don't mean that *I* made it incredible - I mean, the ham itself was (@&%^(#$&*%@ incredible. Best, most amazing ham I've ever had. All I had to do was bake it in the oven with some Sprite (yes, sadly, we have soda in the house whilst the sister's family is visiting) and five cloves of garlic.

It really was the most amazing, wondrous, tender, falvorful, nonsalty ham I've ever ever ever had. And no, I don't know the brand name - it comes from the local butcher/meatmarket dude. A friend of mine convinced me to give these hams a try this year. She was bloody hell right.

Can't wait to make bean soup from the leftovers.

Tomorrow, it's prime rib. YAY!
