My son never wanted to sleep on Christmas Eve and I had work to do. We tried the Santa won't come unless you are asleep and it worked for a while. When my son was about 4, I just let him go to sleep in the big bed with Dad. Luckily, my sister was there to help me play Santa. How I miss those days, my son is now a teen, we open our presents on Christmas Eve and he sleeps in till at least 10 on Christmas morning.

But there's nothing wrong with benadryl for sleep ON RARE OCCASIONS. It's used all the time before non-invasive stuff like MRIs for young'uns. Parents hafta bring it in, tho - hospitals can't use stuff off-label without paperwork. ;-)

We did leave out cookies, though, and plan on leaving out the crums on the plate as "evidence". This is the first year where he's really old enough to anticipate future events, and get all excited about Santa.

but I don't think it's as much a matter of morality as ethics. I used to have a friend who gave her very challenging toddler son Robatussin to "calm him down." She called it "Robo-dosing."
