Stupid barking dog

Actually, stupid owners of a dog. The people who live behind us have a border collie in a very small yard. This sort of dog needs to run.

It barks. And barks. And barks. Constantly. A couple of days ago I filed a complaint with the sheriff's office, but that takes time.

Now I can't sleep because it's barking again.

I wonder how they'd react if I showed up at their door, woke them up, and asked them to please turn down their dog?

(For those who don't know, I can be fairly intimidating. Think Ron Perlman with a shaved head and goatee, very bulky.)

Poor border collie. Those are great dogs who need lots of exercise. They are sheep-herding dogs.

6. I had one growing up

loved her. Had 2 acres for her to run around on.

The saddest thing is that the owner of the dog has a father nearby who owns a farm. She could just take the dog there, and everyone would be happy.

7. Unfortunately, I am dogsitting for a little dog that barks

all night long. It is my next door neighbor's dog. She went out of town for Xmas and animal lover that I am I took the dog until after Xmas. Well, I have to keep him crated at night because he is not housebroken. And needless to say, he doesn't like that at all, so he barks all night long. I can sleep through it, but I'm sure the neighbors on the other side are not happy about it.

10. Usually if you put them in the room where you are spending time..

and even better if they are right next to you, they will quiet down. The opposite approach if that doesn't help is to put the crate in a bathroom, turn the light on and the fan, and even add a radio,especially tuned to a talk station. Just not Rush's station. That would make me howl.

I'll put the crate in the bathroom tonight. I can't keep him in the bedroom because my Rottie sleeps in there with me. And she can't stand this little brat. He drives her crazy by jumping on her, so she runs and hides in the bedroom. He is absolutely adorable, though. He looks like Benji.

this works well when nothing else does. Also, putting some treats in with him to give it some pleasant association can help.

12. I would actually go over there and suggest as nicely as you can..

that they bring the dog inside with them. Foremost, they are herding dogs, and need to be with other beings, especially their humans and other dogs. They will even herd socks and toys, but most dogs don't do well alone. If it's not housebroken, shame on them, but they could even set the dog in the garage, with food, water, blanket,toys and a radio, which I recommended in another post here.It certainly would be better for all if another home was founf. It's cruel to leave them alone like that so much. Your looking intimidating doesn't hurt.

They're not even home! Nobody's gone in or out, that we can tell, for 2 days now.

Contact Animal Control or Humane Society, etc. if this is the case. Have things calmed down yet?

20. We had some dog abusers who lived behind us, too. Abandoned their dog

for 2 weeks. Somebody came and fed and watered the dog every few days, so the animal control people did NOTHING.

They finally moved after getting divorced, but not until we spent many sleepless nights.

I wish you luck.

We thought about trying one of those electronic devices that supposedly stops barking, but as we were discussing the purchase, the jerks moved.

Poor dog. He just wanted to be with his people, no matter how horrible they were.

They are friends, I really appreciate them, but DANG that dog just will not stop yipping. She barks at us even if we are inside our house. My good Mollydog just completely ignores her, thank god. If Molly barked back it would be a real problem. As it is it wakes us up, interferes with concentration, and just annoys the bejeesus out of my (patient) son. Ok and me too.
When we moved here (before our neighbors got their demon doggie) I put a muzzle on Molly when she barked too much. Jus for 15-20 minutes. I think the muzzle worked to get the idea across. She still barks at passers by, just one woof or sometimes even just "w..." - But of course that was Molly the Wonderdog and you are dealing with an idiot dog.
Are you concerned about keeping a good relationship if you ask them if there is anything they can do to help?
