Walmart sales must really be down this year

I was watching some TV last night and every break there was at least one ad for the evil empire - hyping their post Xmas sale, etc. They must be desperate to spend money advertising to sell already discounted merchandise. I hope so at least. :evilgrin:

2. Supposedly this is the case, unfortunately everybody else

is down, except for the luxury stores like Neiman Marcus, and Sears(because they ran good sales, and they always have survived because their credit is easy to get).

5. snow messed up my local wallymart in north central texas.........

Went to get cat food around 10pm on the 23rd. Only three registers open.

4. Their 'associates' should have to do a lot more off-the-clock hours

Do they really believe NPR listeners are their best target market?

7. I just read Washington Times and what a shock.

All I have been hearing is how bad the year was. Well that is not what the Washington Times is saying. So who is right?I like to read all sides. Please do not jump at me.

13. My mom works part time in retail

She says her store (Kohl's) has been packed. I went to one here (MD) on Wednesday night and it was not very busy.

I suspect they will blame lacklucster sales (if it works out that way) on the storms in the Midwest.

8. i know sales in the mall are down

I was talking to the girl at the gift wrap counter (a pretty good arbitor) and asked her how business was compared to last year. She said 'there are a lot less people here this year, last year I had a line.'

I was the only person who approached her for gift wrapping anything. An old man came up while we were talking and asked if he could take a strip of those "To - From" stickers.

9. I know I spent significantly less

than I did last year, and that's with no change in number of people to buy for, nor in our personal finances. It does help that my two sons are now 17 and 22, which makes it easy to scale back.

Despite the fact that yesterday here in Overland Park, Kansas, the major malls were all very, very crowded, it appeared to me that people weren't out in quite the droves they normally are, and that they seemed to be buying a little less than usual.

10. All of the presents from my uncle and aunt were from walmart

It breaks the mood a little bit when you see that "made in China for walmart USA" tag.

11. If anyone wanted to boycott Walmart,

this is the time of year to do it. Many retail stores put their hopes for the entire year in the Xmas buying season. Our Wally World has been packed all week.

(Don't have any Costco's here - so I opt for Target, as it is the LEAST GOP-controlled store of its type in the area. There are no "blue" stores in East Tennessee, so I go for the lesser of several evils).
