Old Slow Hand revealed to BBC Radio 2 last week that he and his former mates in rock's first supergroup, singer-bassist Jack Bruce (news) and drummer Ginger Baker (news), are planning to reunite for four shows next May at London's Royal Albert Hall, the legendary venue where the power trio played its final gig in 1968.

There has been no other official comment since Clapton's remarks--reps for the musicians were not immediately reachable as most labels are on holiday.

2. Yes, Jack underwent a liver transplant in 2003

He was suffering from liver cancer. Now that he's recovered, they are getting together for at least that one show, hopefully more.

As a jazz and blues fan, I don't have a problem with artists continuing to work into their later years, as long as they continue to grow and don't become parodies of themselves. Unfortunately, that is what usually happens. I haven't heard Jack's new album yet, but like the way Clapton has been going back to his roots. Who knows?

5. Not pathetic

This isn't Journey or Boston reuniting to play for some geriatric crowds who never had any taste to begin with, it is one of the best electric blues bands ever. These guys can, and should, continue to play as long as they are able, in the same way that Muddy Waters, BB King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, etc. did/do. All three of the members of Cream are (not were) masters of their respective instruments, and are likely to create new interpretations of their old songs. This ain't no oldies show.

15. Exactly. They will push each other the way they always did.

The first show will be them just having fun rediscovering the old material and interplay. They will each add from what they've learned over the years. I'd also like to hear what songs they pick to play from each other's later repertoire's. That would be brand new right there. To strip them back down to a power trio is a format I don't think any of them have played in ages. That requires a completely different approach from the big band lineups Bruce and Clapton have spent most of their time in for the past couple of decades.

I've seen Television a few times in the last couple of years. It started just as 'Remember when?', but they've started branching out and doing some new material.

9. Something that's always confused me: What do some people think

that musicians are supposed to do when they get older, become construction workers? Computer programmers?

The good ones spent their younger years honing their craft and making music. Why do some people think that when they get older they should just hang it up?

And why do some people make fun of them when they get older and play THEIR MUSIC? That's the music the grew up on, the music that they created. Is there some special age where some people think musicians are supposed to stop playing THEIR MUSIC and start listening to Guy Lombardo?

10. Only an issue since the dawn of rock 'n' roll

because of its emphasis on the 'youth culture' -- musicians still active are assumed to be 'hanging on' instead of improving with experience. So some call them dinosaurs...and their music 'dinosaur rock'. Bullshit.

If they're any good to begin with, and they're serious, musical artists only get better and better and better...unless and until age-related issues diminish their physical abilities to play their chosen instrument.

I'd much rather listen to an older accomplished musician of any genre playing what he knows best, than some kid who just broke out of the basic three chords last week and who's playing what's new and hot today.
