Anyone else have a One Shot Coffee/Tea maker?

I found this great deal from Melita that if you purchased a case of coffee you would receive a coffee maker. I think that it wasn't such a great deal after all. Am I wrong? Do you like your one shot coffee maker or is it more expensive than a regular coffee maker in the long run?

don't drink much coffee, it's more efficient. I actually like them and may buy one.

My niece and her husband gave his father one for xmas. He was actually making coffee about once or twice a week and just drinkin the dregs the rest of the time! Ugh!

One pound of coffee, using standard brewing equipment/techniques, will yield on average 3.2 gallons of hot coffee. Melitta's own coffee isn't sold in one pound cans, but will cost you about $5.56 per pound.

One package of 'one shot' pods: $5.00; 18 cups @ .28 per cup.

It's definitely more expensive; which is why they'd like to get you hooked on the method by 'giving away' the coffee maker.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant by "one shot." I think those things are a ripoff and you are forced to buy Melitta's coffee. That sucks.

Melitta sometimes makes a one cup maker into which you scoop coffee and use an #1 filter. These are great.

5. The case of coffee was shorted by one box

I didn't complain because I wanted to use the machine immediately. The whole case has been used in less then two weeks and it cost over $38.00 for 9 boxes which is kind of expensive to me because I am a student.

8. The pod makes a very small cup of coffee

I tried to press the button twice because my cup is a larger cup that holds about 14 ounces. I tried to push the button one more time to get some more water to run through and it wouldn't do it. It's a nice little tactic that they use so that you won't reuse your pods.

12. sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant was that if you make a pot

of coffee in the morning and end up only drinking part of it, would the cost of the "pod" coffee vs regular brewing even out?

I have also seen several other brands of the coffee pods in the grocery, which I suspect might be less expensive than Melitta.

Still using my 4 cup drip brewer, on those occasions when I brew coffee at home. It's an old one that was my mom's but it works. The pod machines take up too much counter space for me.


Now my temptation currently is to get a French Press, a small one. But I haven't done it yet.

11. Yes, they make a one-cup manual coffee maker

We use the one-cup Melitta. It's just a cone-shaped thing that sits on top of your coffee mug. You put in a filter and a scoop of coffee and pour on boiling water--you know, boiled by hand on top of the stove in a teakettle. It makes great coffee, doesn't take up valuable counter space, and washes up in the dishwasher. If you make coffee one cup at a time, it's the way to go. They're not easy to find, though. If you're in Pittsburgh, the Giant Eagle grocery stores sell them.

They have 30% off on one right now. I bought the clear tea pot that you put a bag of tea in and pour water over it. I should have bought the French Press instead. I was thinking about giving my one cup coffee maker to the staff in my apartment building and I will buy them a couple boxes of coffee to go with it.

4. I've found that most things that look like a "great deal"

usually aren't. Companies aren't generally in business to give things away so when they do, I'm relatively sure there's a catch somewhere. In this case, they want you to commit to buying their product which is going to be more expensive.

Like they say, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I have seen the larger Rittergold filters in recent years, #2 and #4 to replace the disposable filters. I haven't noticed the single cup filters. If they are available it would be through a specialty coffee store.
