What's your favorite flavor of Hamburger/Tuna/Chicken Helper?

I love Bacon Cheeseburger flavor!

Now the nutrition label shows it's high in fat, but if you use soy-based sausage crumbles (ala Morningstar farms) instead of ground beef or ground turkey, you not only eliminate virtually all the fat, but gain a lot of fiber as well.

I usually add veggies like brocolli to the mix to make a complete balanced dinner.

(Cub Foods in MN also has a sale right now, 50% off - stock up, I've had boxes lasting for 3+ years and have never gone bad!)

2. I must say.....

I have never eaten or made any of the "Helper" meals from a box.

I prefer to make my own pasta. It's so easy......

I make my own pizza's too, including the sauce all from scratch. I do buy the mozzerella; fresh handmade style.

6. We tried Hamburger Cheesy Enchailada

It was very tasty. I know that I probably could make something similiar to many of the Helpers, but they are tasty, easy, and not too expensive. We often add stuff to it.

But this reminds me of an old roommate of mine that had an affinity for Helper meals. She used to make Tuna Helper and add brocolli for more nutrition. Retch! :puke: It used to smell so bad!! I learned to avoid our apartment on Tuna Helper nights.

I personally prefer using fresh ingredients over dried packaged stuff. But to each his own. :)

12. Fresh is better

On the other hand, it is inconvient to go to the grocery store frequently to buy fresh ingredients. You can always have things like Hamburger Helper on hand. Unfortunately, I've noticed that I spend more making a good tasty, nutritional meal than I would picking up fast food. This is especially true when you have to buy by the pound rather than a relatively large package of something. If I buy the large package, some of it usually rots before I can use it all. Those are the times that I wish that I was cooking for more than two people.

13. I know what you're talking about...

My solution is to cook in bulk and then freeze it. I get deliveries of organic produce from the farmer's market. Whatever I can't use fresh that week, I will freeze fresh or use it in a recipe and then freeze it. That way, my husband and I always have the choice of eating home cooking when we're tired or too busy. I really can't stand processed food. But I recognize I'm a little "crunchier" than the general population - most people would probably not want to spend Saturday mornings cooking in bulk. :)
