most tsunamis occur in the Pacific. Japan has an extensive warning system. In fact, there is supposed to be a warning system in place for the Indian Oceanbut most of the affected countries are too poor to take part.

My dads in Thailand right now and I keep hearing americans died but they don't name them. Have you seen any sites where they name them?

I can't imagine they'd have the means to get that info out right now. Anyway, I'm sure they're not posting it out of consideration to the family -- not the best way to be informed your loved one is dead.
