WHAT STRUCK ME; what REALLY got the tears going, was watching CBC News World early this morning:
Tourists were being interviewed returning home from Thailand at Vancouver Intn'l Airport, describing where they were when the waves hit, how they escaped, etc.
General consensus was, these people could not believe THE GENEROSITY OF THE PEOPLE OF THAILAND/PHUKET, etc. People making a thousand dollars a year were helping WESTERN TOURISTS with food, clothing, money for taxis and phone calls, etc...ALL THE WHILE APOLOGIZING FOR THIS HAPPENING WHILE THEY WERE VISITING.
At least half of the Canucks interviewed were going through "survivors guilt"; some of them didn't even want to leave, they wanted to stay and help (but what can you do when you're left with nothing but the bathing suit you're wearing?)
Heartbreaking stuff...
PLEASE: EVERYONE MAKE A DONATION IF YOU CAN. BY THE SOUNDS OF IT, THESE PEOPLE DESERVE IT ON EVERY LEVEL.
