Is satellite tv for cars on the horizon? Tivo type device for sat radio?

Just asking the first b/c now that it's getting dark so early I see lots of displays in car on my drive home. More than I realized are out there.
Now regular tv is brazenly advertising them for the driver, it seems (or at least I saw an ad I took to be that, i.e. solo driver, the benefits of having a dvd player stuck in traffic.)

More to my needs, I was wondering if there is some neat time shift device for the XM/Sirrius sorts of lines. Namely, I want to listen to talk radio shows on my commutes and from my reading of the sheules, AAR shows and, cough, Art Bell only show up once a day. First, is that correct? Or are there subchannels that rebroadcat most recent talks shows until the next one airs?

If not, is there a tivo equivalent for sat radio? Any tech followers know if one is in the works?

1. MyFi for XM allows timeshifting

You can schedule two recording sessions totaling roughly five hours. Thus, you can record Art Bell every night while the unit is off and sitting in the base (and presumably you are asleep) and listen to the next day. It is very cool.

6. Okay, after some research

I have a question. Do you use the cassette adpter route (supposedly higher quality)or the FM broadcast route (supposedly lower)? Probably not so improtant in talk radio, but is there a noticable difference to your ears re: music over FM rebradcast mode?

Especially in my area, FM modulation is problematic because there is effectively no open bandwith.

XM has a Tivo like device for radio. It's the SkiFi 2 model
Sirius is soon to be out with an equivalent no doubt.

Both XM and Sirius are working on ways to deliver video to cars.

5. What I want is a more portable base unit

Or a ID'ed smart card, so instead of toting my base unit to my car and putting it into it's cradle, I could just take a smart card from my base unit and plug it into my car's Sirius ready stereo. I just don't like dealing with the bulky suction cup mounted cradle in the car. As it is, a Sirius subscription only works for a single unit. A smart card would solve that problem.

My antenna cable jack broke off after my last trip, and a new antenna is $50 a pop. The jack on these things is very breakable, and it's one of those types that must make a perfect connection or the antenna is worthless.

8. I haven't heard anything, but they need to solve the problem

because it's very annoying. As annoying as the early car CD players were. I suppose if they get the receiver down to a small enough size, that would help. Maybe make a car base unit that fits in a normal DIN form factor.
