A Question About "Johnny Quest"

They're showing a "Johnny Quest" marathon on Boomerang today, something they're referring to as "Hadji New Year".

Here's my question:

Why is Bandid the dog the only character that shows any facial expressions?

Maybe Race and Mrs. Quest did the deed? Is it too hard to believe that Race could race both ways?
