Are you all happy that this decade is now half over?

I am. THe decade of Bush and 9/11, faux patriotism, PNAC, dumbed down everything, music scene at its most stagnant since before the 1950's, social conservative faux Christianity. Those are my reasons. What do you think?

I would be glad that this Decade of Terror is half over. Unfortunately, the American People have spoken, and apparently a decade is clearly not enough.

There is no end in sight, and the pig-headed AWOL bush will not back away from the BIGGEST blunder in American history.

The damage this fucking asshole has done will reach long after he is gone.

3. What a disappointment

For 15 years I thought that January 2005 would bring us the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy, Jr. and the legalization of marijuana and a utopian peace on earth.

2001-2010 is this decade, just as 1-1000 were the first millennium, 1001 - 2000 were the second millennium, etc.

The "1" year is the starting year of any decade.

6. Funny. Everyone says that it is the 0 year.

People said that about the 80's and the 90's.

7. Everyone assumes that until they do the math...

...there was no year "0".

So the first decade was years 1 - 10, the second decade was years 11 - 20, the third was years 21 - 30, and so on, and so on.

Each century and millennium follows the same pattern. The first century was years 1 - 100, the 19th century was years 1801-1900.

The second millennium was 1001 - 2000.

It all makes more sense once you have imbibed heavily...

8. If this were 1/01/0001, the decade would be over at 12/31/0010

at midnight. The year wouldn't be zero, it would be January first of the year One.It drove me up the wall when people insisted the new millenium began on Jan.1st of 2000.

I could understand the symbolism of going from 1999 to 2000 as well as the supposed disaster of the Y2K bug but from a mathematical standpoint you are correct.

It won't be half over until we turn over into 2006.

The years of this decade are 2001-2010, not 2000-2009. It works the same way as centuries work - the 20th century was 1901-2000 and our new century started at 2001.
