i figure we need all the good luck we can find to make it through the year...

tho last night i found myself wondering if i could count all the grapes it took to make that bottle of wine as well.....

to eat black-eyed peas on New Year's.

It's about wishing for more prosperity. Black-eyed peas symbolize more change in your pocket in the coming year and their accompaniment, collards, symbolizes more paper money.

rice for "good luck"...with tortillas and salsa! Black eyed peas aren't the only harbingers of good luck on New Year's Day.

I'm a born and raised Southerner and have eaten Black Eyed Peas (and cabbage) every New Years Day all my life. Today - it's broiled Lobster tails, scallops and Rapini. For once, I'm defying the superstition in hopes of something better. Besides, I live in New York State now, and it's time to drop that silliness.

tequila and lime chicken wings, avacado with fire-roasted salsa on top.

For dessert, I had sugar-free cheescake with some leftover xmas cranberry compote for a topping.

And now, I'm having a very special bottle of champagne I bought for myself last night. :9
