9. Moulin Rouge
Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 08:26 AM by Crisco
I would love to have the original, not dressed-up for commercial consumption, version of that. Lurhman and company made one amazing collage.

For more traditional scores, of recent flicks, Bryan Taylor's soundtrack on Children of Dune rocks the house.

but I can't decide between that, the soundtrack to "Lost Highway", the one for the 1st Crow movie, Hackers, and Trainspotting. Lots of good soundtracks out there...(and I just noticed that THREE on my list were produced by Trent Reznor...hmmm.)

14. i cant imagine a finer film score than h. shore's "fellowship of the ring"
the meshing of sight and sound has never been done better. the music was such an integral part of the impact the visuals of the film makes that it is impossible to extract one from the other without losing much from each.

nonetheless, that film score itself is magnificent music, and i consider it the best film score ever writen.

18. Godzilla King of the Monsters Akira Ifukube
the best of Ifukube's music (and the few other composers who worked for Toho in the Kaiju sountrack area) are collected on The Best of Godzilla 1954-1975. I love it. Some of the best rousing music ever. My favorite track is the march from Destroy All Monsters.

Second runner up -

Ghost in the Shell, Kenji Kawaii. Haunting and moody with more than a little Japanese folk music thrown into the mix. Great stuff all the way around.

A Clockwork Orange: Beethoven, and I want to marry a lighthouse keeper...

The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Ennico Morricone, arguably the best gunfighter movie music ever.

21. Once Upon a Time in Mexico
of the recent crop. Excellent music to accompany the action on the screne. Plus holds up well as a CD in it's own right. Salma Hayack singing Siente Mi Amor is worth the price alone. I hope she sings more; she has a lovely voice. Also Brian Setzer does a ripping version of Malagueña.

For sheer Musical score, it's gotta be Pirates of the Caribbean. Excellent!

When are the going to issue a DVD with that great Saint Petersburg Soundtrack that the Philips Laserdisc has!!!!! I had a chance to see Nevsky performed by the National Symphony syncronized to the film at Wolf Trap some years ago. Hopefully something that will be repeated in the future. Until then the CD to Video manual sync goes on :)
