"Say something nice about yer neighbor" thread.

Lots of heat under collars here in the Lounge tonight, fellow lizards.

Let's take a moment, everyone say something nice about their neighbor... and define that however you want. The person next door. The person down the block. Another DUer... whoever exists in your own personal neighborhood.

I'll go first:

My actual neighbor is a good guy. He pops his head over the fence from time to time to check up on me, even more so since my divorce. Tools borrowed promptly returned clean. Plus he keeps an eye on the place when I'm gone.

4. They shovel my snow...

and started cutting the grass and raking the leaves this year because I have a bad shoulder.

5. My neighbor

who died in November, was always judgemental and course....but I found out that he survived Iwo JIma as a marine and was wounded twice on that hell-hole of an island.....came home, became an apprentice pipe-fitter, married, had six kids and 15 grand children...really salt-of-the-earth type of person...I'll miss him...

6. My neighbors are the best

they are my closest neighbors, live a half a mile away. They sold us 9 acres of their land, and let us pay off part of it by fixing their cars. Dwayne is a Viet Nam vet-a medic with the 101st, who's been a Viet Nam Vet Against War since '68. He helps out when we need it, as we help him. His wife works writing grants for non-profits. They both protested the Iraq War and are activists in ecological matters as well.

Couldn't ask for better neighbors.

7. I have fantastic neighbors

We all watch out for each other, shovel each other's driveways, go to movies together, etc. They are wonderful.

8. My neighbors are great!

I live in a townhouse, so I'm doubly blessed.

The woman on one side ran out for coffee last Monday morning during the snowstorm in the northeast, and picked some up for me cos I was sick & she knew I wasn't going to get out on my own.

The family next door is from Taiwan. They are super-nice, and they just opened up a restaurant a couple of months ago. It's 8 miles away & over the state line, but I make the drive every time I want to order. The food is superb, and they always throw in a little extra. They also wait till we get there to start cooking. They sit us at the bar & give us free drinks till the food's ready.

10. My neighbors are cool - sociable types.

I'm sure they'd help us in a pinch. I would never mind helping them out. I've loaned tools, driven one to the hospital, helped them move stuff. One guy offered me some firewood the other day. I have no problems, and we consider ourselves very lucky. One is moving soon, and we'll miss them.


My mom's neighbors are all cool too. I visit her every other week, and sweep or rake or shovel (snow) for a couple of them. Most are getting old, so I chat a little with them. Her neighbors make it tough for me to get her to move out with us.

11. My neighbor plays ball with my dog

My neighbor behind me made the mistake of throwing the ball for my dog once. Now every time Keaton sees the neighbor, he goes bonkers until he gives in and throws the ball. Being a hyper lab, this can go on for quite some time. Keaton returns the ball by pushing it under the fence. Can't tell who enjoys it more sometimes. At times, when they haven't played in awhile, Keaton sits patiently at the fence staring at his house.

12. not all are bad

yes is something good about my very Conservative, very Republican neighbor upstairs, in no way bothers me with noise in the morning or nights, in some occasions I hear the shower but never the vacuum.

18. I'm game.

I live what I call a "cold" neighborhood, but our next door neighbors are really nice people. They are warm and friendly, and when they smile and wave at us, their smiles are genuine.

And a note about our ex-neighbors: before we left Minnesota, we lived in a cute little 1960s neighborhood in Inver Grove Heights, a St. Paul suburb. Our neighbors across the street were the best neighbors we've ever had. We met them when our daughter was born and they left a baby gift for us on our front steps. They had a little boy just a but older than our little girl. The wife and I became good friends, taking walks together often, dropping in on each other, and watching our kids play together. The husband got along great with my husband, and on summer weekends we'd go to their house, put a fire in the fire pit, roast marshmallows and listen to the guys play guitar. We could count on them for anything, and they felt the same way about us. I miss them.

19. Steve and his wife are awesome!

They both came over and introduced themselves when we moved in. She even made us shortbread cookies.

He's a plumber, and has been INVALUABLE to us. When he found out we were re-doing our bathroom, he came over anmd showed reprehensor how to put a new seal on the toilet AND helped us hook our sink up when we yanked out the old counter and put in an antique in its place.

He also lets us borrow tools-- he lent me a wheelbarrow when I was digging for my pond. THEN he set up the waterfall for me. He helped me put together a prop for Halloween (a portrait for the wall with red lights on a motion sensor), and lent us tiki torches for the backyard.

We keep trying to give him something for all his help and he absolutely refuses.

We are so lucky.

20. My dear Mom's Motto: Extend Your Friendship First....

When we moved into our new neighborhood, we did what we always do, extend our friendship first. This allowed us to pick our friends and let go the ones we can't tolerate.

After two years, we have let go all our neighbors. Some are way too busy working and involved in their own vacuum. One married woman turned out too gross, has the hots for my hubby and made a sex request from my hubby in our own house. She was kicked out the door.

Another couple of our age group, the wife is an extremely envious woman. We got more money (so they think), better education, better home and she can't deal with it.

My hubby and I have a great time by ourselves.

24. All my neighbors are really nice!

The building I live in at our apartment complex has 10 apartments, 5 on top, 5 on bottom. I'm in the bottom, middle apartment. Here's my list of neighbors:

All top 5 apartments -- rented to a private drug rehab program (they have about 15 apartments total in the complex). The clients who stay there are always very nice to me,and love to come pet and play with my cocker spaniel. Guess Magic has become the program mascot!

To either side of me -- a haitian family of man, woman, and 4 year old girl. They are very nice and the daughter is absolutely adorable. Magic gets lots of petting from her, too. On the other side, a hispanic family of man, woman, 7 year old girl and 1 year old girl. Again, very nice family, great kids. More petting for Magic!

Next to hispanic family -- black single mom with 4 year old girl. The mom works in health care, nights, so I don't see them much.

Next to haitian family -- elderly white woman in her 80s. Lives alone, totally self-sufficient. She's a very nice lady, but I don't see her much.

Next to elderly white woman -- a black couple in their upper 50s, I would guess. They are quiet and I don't see them much, but seem nice.

Oh, and this complex was one of very few that suffered NO hurricane damage except landscaping when we were directly hit with Frances and Jeanne. Not even any broken windows. I'm staying here until I move out of Florida or die, whichever comes first.

25. Our next door neighbor is like a grandmother.

She is a wonderful woman, and she has treated us like her own since the day we moved in. We are the same age as her grandkids, but most of them don't live here, so I guess that plays a part in it. We are very lucky!

when it blew away in a freak windstorm (40 MPH+)we had last week. I looked all over for it, but I guess they found it somewhere.
