Does anyone here wear vintage clothing?

I often find myself drooling over the women's vintage clothing category on eBay, especially the stuff from the '20s and the '50s. I'm too heavy to wear them, but that doesn't mean I can't look. ;-)

There are some other sites that sell reproductions, but those often seem more expensive than the real thing! Oh if only I knew how to use that sewing maching gathering dust in the corner...

myself to crochet. Making your own stuff is the IN thing.

6. I wish we had one in town

We've got another fabric store in town, but I've already asked them and they don't give them. There's a seamstress who might be able to help me though. Once I get some steady money coming in I'm planning to ask her if she'll show me a thing or two.

I've found '20s style dresses made in the '60s, and Edwardian clothing was big in the early '80s.

What I've always thought was funny is that when the big '70s retro clothing boom was going on you could actually buy the real thing in a thrift store for much less than the new duds...

9. You bet. I wore a shark skin tuxedo jacket on New Years eve.

I wear loads of vintage clothes. Last year I wore a terrific old Mexican tourist skirt with sequined flowers. Uh huh love that stuff.

10. I got the perfect "Shaft" coat

...at a little resale shop across the bridge from Seattle. It's in perfect condition, and the best part is that it originally came from the Sears Leather Shop. Yeah baby!

13. My grandmother had two gorgeous velvet dresses

from the late teens, early twenties. When I was a teenager they fit perfectly except for through the bust. I think grandma must haved bound her bosoms up, because there was no way she could have worn the dresses otherwise.

I love it, it's my fun-dress-up coat. And it cost me like $20.

I wish I could show you all the mod sixties skirt I scored the other day. I swear I had a dream about buying a skirt like this one. It's made of fabric pieces of different shapes sewn together, and it has a lining. It's beautiful.

I used to buy lots of 'period' pieces, but now I'm more picky - I try to find things that are durable and could pass for new (lots of wool and tailored things). I'm getting a little old for kitsch, but I still want those one-of-a-kind pieces.
