originally by Neil Diamond in 1968, probably best known as a reggae-tinged cover by UB40 in the early 1990s. But UB40's version was based on Tony Tribe's 1969 version, which gets my vote as best cover, perhaps of all time--so good that UB40 basically covered the cover.
