First day on the diet tomorrow and I have a Dean House Party
I've spent this past week easing myself back into the Atkins Diet. It is the one thing that has ever worked for me and it would have worked if I didn't up and move to another state and have that job I hated (I love my current job).

So tomorrow is the kick off date. I spent the past week just getting ready for it and cutting back on the junk food. Even did the 5k AIDS Delaware Walk today. But tomorrow I have that damn Dean House Party that I must attend (my co-host at the Wilmington Meetup's is hosting it and I should go - she's an absolute sweetheart).

I figured to help out my cause I'm making some stuff that I know I can eat. My mother has some great Deviled Eggs (no carbs and real tasty - Mustard is my bestfriend on Atkins!) and a cheese & veggie platter. I figured that'll be enough if some of the 25 other guests show up with cupcakes and other bad foods.

Since I started cutting back last week I've lost 3 pounds. I figured I've preached to all you smokers about quitting so it's about time I quit my bad habit. I mean isn't it somewhat hypocritical to preach about the bad affects of smoking when I'm sitting there gouging myself with foods and therefore hurting my own body (but then again my eating doesn't not affect others who are sitting near me).

3. That's great advice
It's so hard to start the new diet when you have the chance to graze. Ugh. Start it Tuesday!

4. No, I can't put it off until tomorrow
I figured I'd have better luck just bringing the stuff I know I can enjoy eating and stick with that stuff even if I eat a little more than my normal amount (It is atkins).

If I put it off until the next day then I'll just put if off until the next week. Now or never is what I always say!

8. Can I join you on your diet?
I did Atkins also and lost the weight that I needed to lose. But I have put on like 25 pounds. I really need to get back on track. In the past few days I have instructed my husband to not buy any more Pepsi, which is my only drug and I went through terrible withdrawals yesterday. So, if you start tomorrow, maybe I will too. It always helps to have someone suffer with you.

5. I feel for you
I need to go back on something similar myself.

My love for skim milk has been preventing me from taking action.

I have been on a pretty cool variation called the "Hormone enhancement diet"

After the 10 day carb free startup, you are free to eat anything 2 evenings a week, and you stay within 40 carb grams a day .
You lose faster if you are not too excessive on the carb-load nights

I like it because nothing is forbidden on the diet, it is just a matter of when you can eat it. The carb-load nights feel like celebrations.

7. After 2 weeks on Atkins I switch to the Low Carb diet
Which says you can have carbs, but in the evening and then only complex carbos and not junk food. So I go total protien for breakfast, Lunch I may have some carbs like a salad, but dinner I could have some fruit and milk.

6. Good luck LynneSin!
You can do it. A meat and cheese tray is also a good thing to take. You have to watch those veggie carbs during the intro weeks. Make sure you just put the low carb things on your plate and walk away from the food table. Just start talking and socializing and forget what else is out there.

I have been amazed and happy to see a whole new introduction of low carb foods in our local mkts. I even found soy tortilla chips. You can't live without some kind of chips in Texas.

11. Have a great party!
There is a such thing as second hand eating tho. I don't know if that's the best thing to call it. But I know if I live with someone who eats good food, I eat good food and if I live with--or spend a lot of time with--someone who eats junk, I eat junk.

But way to go. I'm really proud of you. I'm trying so hard to eat better too.

And do have an awesome party!

13. Speaking of which, you are going to have some non-junk food at your party?
Or do I have to toke a box of deviled eggs on the train ride up to NYC?

I am allowing myself to drink, but I'm staying away from beer. I wonder how many carbs tequilla has? Nah, I'll just have a glass of wine - it's my treat for the week!

12. Join the Club!
Lost 23 and counting on "modified Atkins".

Cheese, Salami and veggies plus dips (mayo based), meat/cream cheese rollups, fat cucumber slices (with some onion and equal amounts of spenda and vinegar to moisten), La tortilla Factory tuna or chicken salad rollups, Natural Ovens Low Carb bread squares with spreads -- enjoy!

14. Good luck!
I lost almost 50 pounds on a low-carb regime (kind of like Atkins induction, for half a year, not 3 weeks). I'm off right now, nursing a pretty severe ear infection, but should be back on it in a week or so.

15. Eat before you go
Eat something "legal" before you go so you're not hungry.

Drink plenty of water. Have a glass in your hand all the time so it'll be more difficult to eat something other than, maybe, the raw veggies.

Mingle and stay away from the food table.

If you do mess up and nosh on something you shouldn't put it behind you (which is where most of it ends up on me anyhow  )and move on. Remember you're looking for perseverance not perfection.

It's tough but remember how much better the lost poundage will feel. A moment's satisfaction is all you'll get from the food.

Good luck! :)

16. That's why I've starting today instead of postponing
Some folks said just wait til the day after the party to start.

However, I'm better off to cheat and forgive myself than to postpone. Everyone falls off the bandwagon and forgiveness is a big part of quitting. But if postpone a day it'll take me a week at least to psyche myself up to restart again.

go figure!
