Silly shoe question
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 12:06 PM by eyesroll
I live in Wisconsin. It's cold here.

But, lately, I've seen lots of open-toed party shoes for winter.

My question: What the heck are you supposed to wear under them? I mean, obviously the panty hose with the reinforced toes are out...But it's too damn cold to go bare-legged. (It's also too damn cold to go open-toed, but that's beside the point.)

Any recommendations? Thanks.

(On edit: Yes, I know they make panty hose with non-reinforced toes as well...are those at all appropriate? Toes just look silly to me, all scrunched up in them.)

1. No answers here.
I wonder the same thing myself. I always thought it was stupid to have these slinky sleeveless dresses and strappy sandals as "party wear" for the holidays when you're freezing your ass off! Not to mention the undergarments to hold it all in and smooth things out because everything is so skimpy.
Men have no idea...

2. My solution is not to wear open-toed shoes in the winter.
I refuse to wear hose when my toes will be showing.

For winter, I like boots. Dressy boots, casual boots, lots of boots. :)

3. Unfortunately, I hit a dead end on that...
Boots won't go with this dress.

The shoes are perfect. I've already worn the ensemble once, but it was warmer out, no snow, so I just went without hose.

I have an occasion to wear it again (yay!), but it's much colder.

11. They're heels, and silver...
But, looking at the weather forecast -- there's gonna be snow.

Screw that. I'm gonna get something with a closed toe and not worry about it.

8. Try sexy slingbacks
You can wear hose, and your toes don't show.

Or how long is the dress? If it's long enough, you can wear Spanx.

4. Designed by men who loathe women, no doubt.
Women's shoes are ridiculous. When men begin wearing shoes such as these, THEN women should follow suit. Not one nanosecond before.!

Seriously, what's wrong with wearing the kind of stockings without reinforced toes?

9. In general? Nothing.

The hose I'm wearing now (under sensible work pumps) are probably non-reinforced.

But I'm getting conflicting info on whether it's ever appropriate to wear hose at all if the toes are showing.

So far, a google search has told me:
1. Nope, never
2. Only if it's the 1940s "peekaboo" style
3. If you must, make them very sheer and match your skin tone
4. Go nuts.

And on edit: I found a Kate Spade interview that says wear *anything* but sheer/nude with open-toed shoes.

16. WTF, you're not supposed to wear hose with open-toed shoes?
I've never, ever heard that.

But I live in Texas, where it's pretty much too damn hot to EVER wear hose, at least in the summer. Thank GOD for "office casual."

I'd never wear open toed shoes in the winter. Too cold! :scared:

12. Passion for the fashion regardless the suffering
If it were up to me I'd get some Land's End Ugg-type boots, wool socks, thermal undies and build from there. It seems you lack the passion of Christ.

13. No panty hose with open toes!
What about wearing pants/boots to the party/function and then changing into your open toe shoes and party outfit?

15. That's a no-can-do, unfortunately.
I've resigned myself to just getting a more seasonally appropriate pair of shoes (at least they'll probably be on clearance right now).
