November 10, 2004 - Let's talk pain for a minute. The second-most painful thing in the world, as I see it, is to follow through on one's obligation to publically warn the populace that the product of an artist or artists is an almost offensively perfect failure. One can only speculate as to how much heart and soul has been poured into a work. We might, for the sake of argument, give Good Charlotte the benefit of the doubt and posit that the pop-goth-emo-punk-whatever outfit honestly set out to assemble a masterwork of sheer emotional gravity and emerge as the voice of a lost generation. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions, however, and it is with absolutely no reservation that I declare listening to The Chronicles Of Life And Death to be the most painful thing in the world.
