How about The Prisoners "In From The Cold" or The Flamin Groovies "Teenage Head"?

4. Any Mothers of Invention Album

To me Absolutely Free, Uncle Meat and We're Only in it for the Money should be discussed with the likes of Sgt Peppers, Exile on Main St, etc etc. I knew it was a bad sign when Rolling Stone put Blind Melon on the cover in the issue they memorialized Frank. Still he seems to be alive and well on this forum based on the names and avators.

6. Mason Proffit, Wanted: Mason Proffit

1968 and Mason Proffit was an early early venture into Country Rock, ala Gram Parsons and the Byrds. The song Two Hang Men is one of the best anti-death penalty songs ever.

As I rode into Tombstone on my horse, his name was Mack,
I saw what I'll relate to you going on behind my back.
It seems the folks were up in arms, a man now had to die
For believing things that didn't fit the laws they'd set aside.

The man's name was Ima Freak, the best that I could see
He was the executioner, a hangman just like me.
I guess that he'd seen loopholes from working with his rope
He'd hung the wrong man many times so now he'd turned to hope.

He talked to all the people from his scaffold in the square
He told them of the things he'd found but they didn't seem to care
He said the laws were obsolete, a change they should demand

The Marshal's name was Uncle Sam, he said he'd right this wrong

15. The Association

At least two of their albums influenced the Beatles and the Beach Boys -- Insight Out and Birthday. They also did a blatantly LSD/Tibetan Buddhism themed song, Pandora's Golden Heebie-Jeebies, which they snuck onto one album by relating it to an infamous bust of an LA music venue.

Most of their stuff was quite a bit more psychedelic than the big prom hits they had. Tim Leary, in particular, was fond of them.

Fantastic English jazz-infused rock band from the early 70s. Way ahead of their time.
