Bummer..Cordell Jackson passed away..in October

I had the pleasure to meet Cordell in her Memphis home in the summer of 2003 and she was a trip. A friend of mine who knew Cordell just called to tell me the news. Cordell also did her own kind of artwork and my friends pitched in and sent me one of her pieces last year. I now have it in my studio. When I was there she sang me 2 ballads...lol. Then she let me play her signature Hagstrom guitar. She said I was a good "picker"..:)
Well, I just thought I would post this for anyone who was familiar with Cordell's music and career.

Cordell Jackson, who was one of Memphis' greatest icons of music, died Friday, October 15th at the age of 81. Jackson is most known for showing up Brian Setzer in a guitar duel in a Budweiser commercial in the early 1990s. Her wildly independent spirit created Moon Records in the 1950s to release her signature Hagstrom rockabilly sound as well records by others. Jackson began Moon in 1956 when she was rejected by Sun Records. Cordell Jackson was a hero for a new generation of roots and rockabilly fans, re-discovered and covered by Memphis artists like Tav Falco and Jeff Evans.

2. She was a trip

She had pictures all over her house of her with people like Charlie Rich, Sam Cooke, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash and so many more. I was floored by how many people she knew.
She was also the first woman to produce her own material and they even have some of her stuff at the Smithsonian because of her contribution for women in the music field.
