...still performs somewhat regularly in the UK. I saw Doll by Doll a couple of times at the Marquee in the 80's, good band. Did you ever hear the album Leven released in 1975 (in Spain only) under the name Jon St. Field? I think it was actually recorded in 1970 but not released until later. It's called "Control" and is very different from anything else he's done, very psychedelic, his vocals are unmistakeable though. It's been reissued on CD. Phil Ryan from Man plays keyboards on it.

kind of Rock/ballad songs that he sang. (I always felt there was a hint of Country/Western influence in his vocal style.)

As for "scream-it-out-loud" rock ballads---I'd vote for Meatloaf.

For newer artists, Devin Townsend is probably the best vocalist in rock right now. I've never heard anyone project so much power.
