Cops: Mom used hammer on son over homework

The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A 34-year-old Ferguson woman was charged Tuesday with using a hammer and pliers to punish her son for not doing his homework.
Police say Nancy Boyd-Porter had her other sons hold down the victim while she hit him in the hand with a hammer. She then squeezed the boy's fingers with a pair of pliers and threatened to break them.

The boy said she then threw the hammer at him, hitting him in the ankle.

Police said the mother admitted to using the pliers to frighten the child. She told detectives that she was punishing her son for not starting his homework before she got home that night.

Boyd-Porter faces four felony charges, including abuse of a child, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree assault and armed criminal action.

16. This is why I say, and I know some will agree with me:

We need to force ALL natural parents to have a "parenting license" in order to keep their kids. If a couple is expecting their first child, they would take a series of tests like you would for driving, and recieve a parenting license if deemed fit. As long as a parent is deemed worthy to be a parent, they would keep the license, no muss, no fuss. When each subsequent child is expected afterwards, they would need to renew the license, otherwise they would need to renew it twice before their only child turns 18.

You already need a license to drive a car, because if you abuse it, it might cost a life. You should also have a license to parent a child, because if you abuse it, it could also cost a life too.

This would take the pressure off of child services, would make the notion of child services taking children (who have been with their parents all their life) away from their parents, because if a couple is deemed unfit, the child would go staright up for adoption.

It makes me sick that most of these horrible abuse cases are being perpetrated by natural parents.

and reasoning. Don't you think that ANYONE could pass a test at anytime? When you go for your drivers license, you drive perfectly fine, they grant you a license yet how MANY idiots are out there on the highways causing road rage and accidents?
Parenting classes are a definate plus in my opinion. We have lost the whole concept of extended families too. There was a time when we were less mobile, families stuck together and watched out for one another. I'm not suggesting that would prevent any child abuse, I'm just saying that perhaps the stress level in a household would be lessened, therefore making parenting a BIT easier(?) maybe?

My son will never be the same and I want whoever did that to her
to pay for not only taking a life but destroying all of the families he ravaged. Our 14 year old who not only has JD and her own problems now is having to see a Shrink and the nut stalked that girl who had been a part of our family for 5 years. Yeah, you bet I changed my mind. I have not slept one night since this all happened.
Remember I got a VN vet husband already suffering from PTSD and hearing gunshots. Now we all sleep and wake up in a sweat knowing this precious girl got multiple ones in the head. We will never ever get over this !

Please don't feel sorry for me for changing my position on the death penalty , I just woke up and saw there are just some people who don't even act human and to kill someone ...correction 2 somebodies, an old man was murdered (her boss( with her. and wreck lives deserve the ultimate penalty under the law.
