Man Test Drives Ferrari........Steals It During Rush Hour
<snip>

ARDMORE, Pa. -- Where do you hide a $729,000 Ferrari during rush hour?

That's what police in the Philadelphia suburbs want to know, after a man drove off with a red Ferrari F50 during a test drive.

The same man may have grabbed two lower-end Ferraris from dealerships in North Carolina and New York this year, police said.

The missing Pennsylvania-based Ferrari F50 -- which can hit 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and tops out at 203 mph -- hasn't been seen since the Sept. 16 test drive at Algar Ferrari in Rosemont.

"One of these would attract attention anywhere, even in a crowd of Ferrari people," said Gerald Roush, who publishes a Ferrari newsletter.

Police theorize it was hustled into a trailer and quickly shipped overseas for sale on the black market.

3. What kind of credentials did he have to show to drive off with
a $700k car? If the dealership was that stupid than the guy almost deserves the car... there is trust ...and then there is just plain stupid.

To even look at some real estate you must have a credit check before they let you in the front door...

"Claiming to be a wealthy businessman, he had called ahead about the car and produced someone else's proof of credit, police said."

appointment well in advance so that your credit can be checked and yes, they even want a business and personal reference.

They DON'T generally mess around about this at all.

And yes, I've ridden in one. And yes, we had, well, nevermind . . .

Don't tell my husband!

On edit, after reading the araticle: Damn right the dealer is crying its eyes out; guess what happens when you don't follow SOP?

The insurance company si salivating at raising the dealer's rates, I bet. From the article:

The alleged thief, a nattily dressed man who claimed he had flown up from Atlanta and had a limo waiting nearby, took the test drive without producing a license (emphasis mine). The ID, he said, was in a wallet he had left with his secretary.
(snip)

There is one less Ferrari salesman since September 17.

which means a tailored suit, expensive shoes, a Rolex or Tag Heuer, and a good haircut, most likely. Appearances go a long way, you know.

6. it is better to look good than to have enough cash...
hahahaha...that dealer has to be crying his eyes out unless he/she is involved in this scam....

This kind of stuff used to happen at dealerships in our area with much less expensive cars. To combat it they insisted that the salesperson go along for the test drive...cut down theft.

8. Yeah
I mean, my wife and I left our practically new truck at the dealer, and still had to bring along the salesman when we test drove the Prius.

I can't imagine the dealer isn't insured, but still... don't look for that particular salesman on the floor any time soon!
