2. The part of Alaska that's available for private development...

...is 1760 sq miles. By contrast, our smallest state, Rhode Island is 1,045 sq miles. Our second smallest state, Delaware, is 1,995 sq miles.

Most of Alaska is federal, state, and tribal land. Not that that's bad, just that Alaska isn't quite as roomy as most of us imagine. :)

But, if you're going to move there (unless you have a lot of money) expect to have neighbors. Also the chances are pretty good that your neighbors will be fairly conservative.

It is amazing to me that they can't write to a congressman or senator that represents them. Very sad.

I lived in the DC area as a kid, in Maryland suburbs.
