My son ate solid food for the first time tonight. He was confused by it at first and got a little upset, so I thought he might not be ready for it, despite the signs. But I kept at it, and he LOVED it. He grabbed on to my pinky and pulled the spoon toward his mouth and was way into it.

I only gave him a tablespoon full. He wanted more, but I didn't want to give him too much his first time, so I nursed him and put him to bed.

His daddy videotaped the fussy part, but had to leave to play a show (a tsunami benefit on the lower east side) so he missed the happy, excited part. So that's too bad. But since he's a stay-at-home-dad, I'm usually the one who misses stuff, so I don't feel too bad.

Anyway, I called all the grandparents, except my mom's line was busy. So flama, if you're lurking, your grandson ate his first solid food tonight!

5. I have three - ages 17, 5, and 3.

It did seem to fly by. You look back and sometimes it seems so far away, and other times it seems as though they were just infants. I just put my son to bed, awed that he's my baby-baby and he's grown so fast. Thank goodness he still has those plump toddler cheeks to kiss!

6. Ohhhh, I am so jealous!

I only have one and she's 17. She leaves in the fall to move 600+ miles away and attend college. :cry:

I only know a couple of other moms of Seniors my age and all of them have some little ones still in the nest.

12. He's only 3 1/2 months old, but he's 19 pounds...

...and he sits up and he's been insatiable lately, and grabbed a spoon of ice cream out of his dad's hand yesterday, so we figured we give him some cereal. We weren't planning on even thinking about it until he was at least 4 months old, but he's big and hungry and a bit ahead on his physical milestones, except any from the tummy, because he hates tummy time.

He's our first, and likely only.

He's a big, robust boy too, and he also hated tummy time!

At 42 pounds, he outweighs his five-year-old sister.

Bet he also wore 6 - 12 Month size clothes at 3 1/2 months.

And did he ever get into tummy time? Was he a late crawler? Did it end up making any real difference that he didn't like it?

20. Yes, he's tall. He's long waisted, so it's hard to find shirts long

enough for him. He's turning three tomorrow and wearing 4T and 5T for shirts. His winter jacket is 5T.

He never really did get into tummy time, but it didn't hold him back. He crawled at 5½ or 6 months, and walked at 10½ months. Maybe he just felt frustrated by tummy time very early because he couldn't get anywhere?

My 5-year-old daughter didn't crawl until 10 months and didn't walk until 16 months. Before she learned to crawl, she rolled from place to place.

I wouldn't worry about your son not liking tummy time. Some babies don't for whatever reason.

He sounds like a real sweetheart. :)

7. Cool news!

Glad to hear he's moving along :-) After a few weeks, my son was getting bored with rice cereal and milk solo, I started mixing it with applesauce, which was pretty A-list for him :-)

He's wonderful. We had to pick up his car seat from daddy's studio today, and all the young musician boys were going crazy over him. It was so sweet.

9. That's great! Breastfeeding will be much easier

now and a LOT less stressful now that you are not his sole source of nourishment! Enjoy!! My kids both loved green beans and hated broccoli. We have hilarious pictures of them eating broccoli. It was so funny that I kept feeding it to them, just to see them make the faces. Now it is their favorite veggie!

11. Isn't it funny watching them taste foods for the first time?

My son loved sweet potatoes and apples, but wouldn't touch baby food bananas (he liked them all right if they were fresh and I mashed them up). My oldest loved green beans also. I have a picture somewhere of her with a green ring around her mouth and a huge grin.

Huge milestone! For me, things seem to change a lot after that. It's the first step to independence.

Of course I worried all night that he would throw up in his sleep, so I checked him every hour. But he slept through the night and he was fine. Maybe next time he sleeps through the night, I will too!
