About the New York Times article follow-up from DU.

Although I fully agree that the conspiracies are pure B.S., I feel that if the administers want to remove all ideas, or conspiracies, that users post about Tsunami or anything else for that matter, it would go against the values that we all hold in common.


From a business perspective, John Schwartz obviously had nothing else to write about so he had to scrounge for something. The story basically had no merit of importance. DU got free publicity and should cherrish that instead of censoring further posts on the topic.

Although I don't agree with the stupid conspiracies, I think it hurts DU to be censoring certain topics that are not hurting anyone or project profanity.

Also, I don't give a shit when people label ideas as "conspiracies" just to discount them. I try to evaluate them myself, not look to others to do my thinking for me. IMNSHO, there are many "conspiracies" that any intelligent and informed person would have to conclude have merit.

Although there are some 'interesting' posters out there, it is what makes us the DU! If we censor ourself because of what "they" might think, they win.

That said, there are a few threads that could be considered conspiracy, but really are interesting and are being more investigative than the MSM. I am just glad I am not a moderator...tough gig!

8. I posted this general opinion

in several ways on the thread skinner started. I think the fact that any ideas or theories can be discussed and evaluated freely is exactly what is best about DU and it's also what scares the NYT.

It intimidates them because it takes away their role as gatekeeper of the mainstream press. I'm interested in seeing if the censorship will go beyond removing a few tsunami posts. I'm guessing cooler heads will prevail and hoping that DU won't change.
