BEIJING (AFP) - Agencies in China's Chengdu city are offering rented girlfriends to bachelors who need someone to show off to relatives during the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, state press said.


"Love agencies are springing up in Chengdu offering an invaluable service for those men whose parents are nagging them to settle down," the China West Metropolitan News reported.


A hired girlfriend can cost as much as 300 yuan (36 dollars) a day, the paper said, a third of an ordinary worker's monthly salary in China.

It's certainly cheaper than a wife or a real girlfriend. Hell, might as well rent for life, and when you get bored with one get a different one. And when you stop renting, the government won't give her half or more of your shit and half or more of your future earnings, either.

With a majority of the births in China still being male, many men have a difficult time finding available women... while the one child policy has actually helped many young women in China, especially in the more modern East Coast, there is still a deficit of women.

Also, I think homosexuality is still underground in China, though that is gradually changing.
